Default DCCU "Supergirl" Movie - Your Thoughts?

As a fan of the 1984 film starring Helen Slater, and Laura Vandervoort's performance on Smallville, I think Kara really deserves her own movie in the DC Cinematic Universe. Aside from Melissa Benoist's enthusiasm, I really can't stand the current TV series.

So, here's a thread to discuss the subject. If WB decided to include Kara in a future DCCU movie, what would you want to see? Who would make for a good Kara in your opinion, acting alongside Henry Cavill as Clark? What kind of story would you like to see told? I'd love for them to include Brainiac and the shrunken city of Kandor, or even the renegade clone Galatea. Since the "Snyderverse" has established Lex being able to manipulate Kryptonian science, they could even combine the two...having him create Kara as an opponent for Superman only to lose when she sides against her maker. I admit such an effort would be challenging to pull off, but with the new Wonder Woman film coming up, and Marvel planning a potential solo entry for Black Widow...it could work if done the right way. What do you all think?

Keep her on tv where Melissa Benoist is kicking ass in her portrayal. Let the movies sort out the mess they have created before they bring in characters like Kara. They can't even get Superman right. Trying focusing on that first.

As long as it doesn't take absolutely any cues from Ally McSupergirl that's being broadcast on television.

The DCEU is off to a great start, so I'd love to see Supergirl introduced at some point.

Awhile back I stumbled across this photo of a Man of Steel-inspired Supergirl cosplay and it made me really want to see Kara turn up in a sequel.

[Show spoiler]

You're a fan of the 1984 film but can't stand the current show? Right...

Warner/DC would be crazy to not consider bringing supergirl to the big screen.

As I've said before. Geoff Johns and Zack Snyder have already dealt with Kara in a prequel comic to Man of Steel. I mean, sure, if she doesn't age then I see no reason why they couldn't make a film about this woman that has lived for thousands of years. That premise in and of itself is interesting, but then again, Wonder Woman seems to be dealing with a situation not entirely unlike that.
I think Warner will explore other venues and female superheroes instead, and just keep Supergirl on the small screen.
DC has a lot of female characters that could definitely carry a film on their own (or as in the case of Suicide Squad, as the sort of lead in an ensemble piece), such as Zatanna (please make that Justice League Dark film happen!), Batwoman (in her early comics she's not part of the "Bat-family", and the homosexual angle feels right in these times), Hawkgirl (already xplored on tv, but could work really well as the sort of operatic tragedy that DC has been doing a bit of), Black Canary (the stand alone, songstress comic arc that just finished was actually surprisingly good, but it could also be a Birds of Prey adaptation also featuring Huntress and Batgirl).
Also, I'd love to see Harley team up with Poison Ivy and Catwoman for a Vixens film.
EDIT: I means Sirens, not Vixens.

The '84 film didn't pander to every demographic imaginable...and to quote Forrest Gump, "that's all I have to say about that."

Meh. It would only further drag down the DDCU if it flops. I still feel like they have not gotten more than half a movie right with Superman yet. Now you want them to tackle this? Pass. Keep in on TV.

I love that when something isn't specifically made for the demographic you're in, it's all of a sudden "pandering". How is it NOT pandering with things you enjoy? Do you think females and feminists are upset that the shows you enjoy are "pandering" to the conservative comic book die-hards crowd? Because I don't think so... I think they appreciate that there's a variety of shows that different people can enjoy for different reasons. The whole "pandering" argument just has to go as everything panders to some people more than others, and I just see people use the expression as soon as they come across something they want to enjoy, but can't because of narrow-mindedness.

The '84 film certainly didn't pander to demographics. It especially missed the "people who enjoy well directed, written, and acted pieces of cinema" demographic.

I'll concede about some of the writing, but most of the actors did well with what they were given...especially Helen Slater, Faye Dunaway, and Peter O'Toole. The only one I really cringed at was Hart Bochner; his scenes with Helen felt too forced most of the time.

As for direction, Jeannot Szwarc may not be a huge name...but he's done some very solid work over the years. Most of it has been on television, from episodes of The Practice and Without a Trace to Bones and Fringe. He also has additional experience with the Superman mythology, helming 14 episodes of Smallville.

You're implication seems to be that all girls or women should be radical feminists with an "entitled victim" complex...which I don't believe for one second. Calista Flockhart's character is but a slightly-exaggerated version of the kind of audience that show was made for. Also, the tone and visual design are horrible, having more in line with Superman IV or the ultra-cheesy 1980s Superboy show. Kara's the only one I can really stand from the current series, but half the time she's all queasy over the Jimmy Olsen wannabe or fetching coffee for Mrs. Spoiled Brat.

How about Yvonne Strahovski or Katheryn Winnick? They can do her own stunts.

They're both too old; Kara's usually portrayed as significantly younger than Superman.

She's dedicated to a new TV series called American Gods...and would be too old by the time WB got around to doing a film.
