Default For anyone considering a projector

Hey everyone. Just wanted to make a quick post for anyone debating whether or not to invest in a projector setup.

I recently purchased a Panasonic PT-AE2000U projector and a 106" screen after much back and forth on the subject. I cannot even describe how much of an improvement over watching it on a 40" LCD. The image quality is astounding and at 24f/s it looks encredibly life-like. If you are debating the investment and have even the slightest love for film in general, let me assure you that this is the way movies HAVE to be viewed. So much of the impact and subtle expressions are lost viewed on smaller scales.

I would now much rather watch a Blu-Ray at home. The image is cleaner, the quality is 100% as expected, and no hassle driving everyone to the theater. I cannot say enough. Take the dive and you will not regret it.

i wish my projector was 1080p, but yes, with a 1080i projector you get incredible clarity and size for you dollar.

My panny is only a 720p/1080i native resolution but it accepts a 1080p/24 signal and does a slight down conversion. To be honest, I don't see how a pure 1080 projector could do much better. The image is striking.

I have the AE1000. The effect is spectacular, well worth it.

I have a regular infocus 4805 projector. I am looking to upgrade to an hd native projector. I don't have a lot of cash left. If I get a projector that is 720 over one that is 1080 will I see a big difference? Remember my projector is only 480. The screen will be 96".

Thanks!

-Blu4ever what Panny do you have?

Not sure what your budget is, but take a look at the Optoma HD80. There is a very good review on it over at projectorcentral. It's only drawback seems to be that it can be difficult, if not impossible to place in smaller rooms. Pay particular attention to minimum throw for your desired screen size. It's weak on the zoom, and it's DLP, so the throw distance can be longer than what you would expect. The price is good though, under $2000 now I believe.

Once I finally got my $3000 52" Sony Bravia LCD mounted onto the wall, it was obvious that I should have considered a projector instead... oh well.

Projectors are great and I'll never go back to anything else in my main viewing area.

I would recommend lamp warranties to anyone purchasing a projector though. I don't know about pricing for all companies, but I got a 2 lamp, 3 year warranty for $99. Not bad considering the lamps can set you back $300 or more each.

Yes you will see a significant upgrade with either the 720 or 1080 native. I have the PT-AX200U as a model number for my projector. It is 720 native but accepts a 1080p 24f/s signal and the image from Blu's is spectacular. No visible pixel structure at all. I sit about 14 from 106" 16:9 screen. The visual is crystal clear if you are considering upgrading. Get features on the Panny unit as well.
