Cool good to see more and more people are brining players to market.

Not too familiar with the Liteon name, am I right to assume this will be a budget priced player? Nevertheless, always good to have more playback options available.

I got tired of trying to spell in German. LOL

Love to see pricing on these players and if they plan on launching in Euro first before coming to America.

The HD DVD design is UGLY. The Blu-Ray design doesn't look half bad but the buttons are awkward (on top of the unit)

nyg

Liteon does a lot of OEM work. You may have purchased their drives rebranded as Sony or BenQ or other manufacturers. They won't be top tier but they shouldn't be crap either.

Good to hear. Hopefully they will offer a reasonably priced BD player this fall for those who aren't interested in the PS3 or can't get a hold of one.

My guess is that this player comes out at like 599 list or something like that.

They used to make the BEST CD-RW drives ever. I still have a 52x32x52 CD-RW drive wich have not been beaten not is speed, nor quality of writing.
It even reads at 55+x sometimes on nice discs!!! Excelent drive!

Lite on has a good reputation in the PC market.

I'm confused. Murch, are they making players for both formats or what?

I'll second that, I had several Lite-on drives (CD-RW, DVD-Rom, DVD-RW) and all were top-notch.

NOoOoOOoooOoOooOoo

I don't want the poop poo brand stuff in the blu ray camp this early in the game...

well, actually it's probably a good thing..since they will be cheap and encourage mass adoption.

Lite-On is on of the top brands in optical drives manufacturing.
They manufacture optical drives for Sony, HP, Apple, Plextor (some models only), Philips and several other "big players". Their product quality is always usually top-notch and they're quite well know by computer market professionals.
(well, actually I know this only because I'm one )

Lite-On is somewhat a budget brand in their consumer electronics.

Their DVD recorders were among the cheapest...and they were built that way.

They have decent CD/DVD burners, but reliabilty is questionable.
