PDF is just a file format or a good a analogy a piece of paper. The photo's have been around for a while along with most of the specs, so the question is what exciting information is in the PDF?

On the 2500 it looks that way but the 3800 has them.

The 2500 also seems to have audio decoders so that not only can you bitstream all formats, the player can decode all of them and send them via PCM.

The perfect player to but to rest if there is a difference between the two.

(well maybe not since I'll bet Denon will do the internal decoding right. )

Yes the 3800 has analog outs as well as just out any other type you need. So for those without HDMI receivers the 3800 will be the choice. For those with HDMI the 2500 does everything they would need.

Well, there are other differences, as well. The 2500 is a true transport. You'll ideally want to be able to accept 1080p24 (and i30) for BD and 480i for DVD over HDMI in an external processor of some kind. The 3800 has the Realta sxTX2 HQV processor for ultimate scaling and deinterlacing. Even if you are only going to use the HDMI connection, most people will find the 3800's image processing superior to that in their TV and receiver.

Unless I have misunderstood, the 2500 actually does decode audio.
However, its only output is thru a HDMI DIGITAL connection (is this what Denon means with being a "digital transport?").

The 3800 can output RAW bitstream, in addition to internal decoding.
I can see where the 3800 is significantly different than other players on the market.

The only advantage the 2500 has over the BD30 is decoding being done in the player and being able to output to HDMI receivers that can't decode BD audio formats.

Am I wrong here???

Maybe the interesting part of the link provided is that the person who posted the pdf wrote: "I work for a high end av shop and just received these pdfs from sales rep".
That would mean that there is finally something happening at Denon regarding those players?!?
Since the announcement release there has been minimum information. So I welcome the news and I really look forward on putting finally my hands on the Denon player (I am growing a bit frustrated of purchasing Blu-ray movies without even owning a player... :-)

And the MSRPs were just posted over in the thread as well.

Quote:
MRSP $1149 for DVD2500BT and $2495.00 Denon DVD3800BD
I figured with the changing market they might just drop the price some does not look like it.

And Hoser you are right that is the only benifit really with the really any of the bitstreaming players and the 2500. And of course you get the Denon name.

Indeed, it appears they've raised the price of the 3800, which, as memory serves, was originally to be $1,995, no?

That's what I remember. Hmm... I think they just managed to price themselves out of my range. Back to the search for the perfect player.

The internal decoding of TrueHD and DTS-HD MA for the 2500 is new. Originally, the specs for the 2500 stated that it would pass those audio formats as bitstreams, but not decode them internally.

Hopefully the new pdf is correct and not just a misprint/oversight.

In terms of specs, yes, it seems the only thing this thing will do that the Panny BD30 won't is decode TrueHD and DTS-HD MA internally.

However, I'd bet that the 2500 will still produce a better picture. For example, I've got a Denon DVD-2930CI and the Sammy BD-P1200. Both have the Reon chip for video processing, but the Denon is clearly better at upconverting SD DVDs.

Any whispers/rumors on a street date?

Probably good news! Denon's site is showing list as $1,999, so that $500 increase may just be "noise in the system".

Agreed but still double the price of any other player right now.
