Title is self-explanatory. I sometimes get the desire, to purchase movies I don't actually like that much. That probably sounds weird, but if the movie has special historical significance, I consider buying it.
The Wizard of Oz is an example, for me. I pretty much hate that movie, but like the potential it had, and LOVE Wicked, so I got it on blu-Ray. Another one is Gone with the Wind. To be fair, I like that a lot more than Wizard of Oz, but I don't envision myself watching any more than 2 times before I die (am 30 now) so it's not exactly a top favorite either, lol. There are a few other movies that in the long run really weren't that amazing but I may get based on its nostalgic factor. I feel like I've become a lot less conservative with my movie library, and wonder if any of you have experienced this too? Sent from your Mom's iPhone using Tapatalk |

I don't always have a lot of money to spend on movies, so that would be a big waste for me. Even if I could throw money around, though, I still wouldn't do it. I'm selective and only buy what I actually like and know I'll rewatch.

I blind buy films with historical significance and haven't liked them, but no, I've never brought something I hadn't liked for the sake of just having it.

I did blind bought many films for their historical significance, I likes them enough to keep them mostly. But I don't buy anything I have seen and I don't like, no matter what their historical significance or glowing reviews from critics.

Hell no. If I had guests who wanted to see Gone With The Wind, I'd pop in the DVD. Never liked the film but thought I should have it as part of a good selection. The I wised up - no one asks to see that film or others like it so I'm not re-buying on BD or 4K unless I dig the film.

I never buy films I actively dislike, but sometimes I do buy films that I'm not passionate about if they're important and have replay factor. I've come to like many films towards which I was initially lukewarm thanks to repeat viewings.
I love movies way too much to give up on any in a knee-jerk way, unless it's extremely boring or extremely bad. |

Sort of, sometimes.
Early on I made a point of collecting the AFI 100 as they came out. They weren't all movies I loved or had to have but overall it's been a good experience. Similarly, I wasn't a huge 'watch it every year or so' fan of Metropolis and had never seen any of Fritz Lang's other silent films but I figured that dropping a few bucks on the BDs was as good a way as any of exploring them. And that's worked out pretty well too. To me paying ten or so bucks on a BD is no different than paying the same amount to see the same film at a revival type theater. A blind buy is a blind buy and I don't limit them to stuff I know I like. And sometimes I'll even expand that to include giving another look to things I know I don't like. |
