^I have never seen a well-reviewed DVD look even on a 50" screen (at 7 ft away) as bad as in those screenshots. I don't so far own this movie so I can't specifically say about this one, but is it possible that there is some kind of aberration induced accidentally that makes the DVD shots look worse than the film actually does on DVD?

I watched my UK copy today and am pleased to say it was excellent (on a 110 inch screen). Slightly soft on the opening credits which was a bit of a concern, but when the film "proper" got going, it just got better and better. Fine object detail was quite incredible. The colour, black levels and sumptuous design were a real treat to behold.

Not sure about this...this website says this Blu-Ray is "region-free", but when I click Buy Now to go to Amazon (UK), it says it's Region B/2.

How do I know it will play on my Blu-Ray in the US? And why isn't this fantastic movie already on Blu-Ray for Region A?

Just realized that the extras are almost entirely different from the DVD.
The DVD had 2 commentaries, deleted scenes, and Emma Thompson's Golden Globe speech.
The Blu-ray includes 5 new featurettes and only the deleted scenes are carried over from the DVD.

I wonder if a future US version may collect all the extras together, Criterion perhaps?

I need to get this! But I'm troubled by the lack of Emma Thompson's commentary, which I've listened to 2 or 3 times -- it's that good.

What are the odds the Americans are getting an edition of this? it's one of my favorite movies so I'd love to have it, but I'm shy at buying something from the UK I might not be able to play! -- particularly if in 6 months, an American version hits the market.
