I'd buy the first and third films. 2 and 4 are terrible. Last Knight has the potential to be good, since the odd films seem to be decent, but I'm not anticipating anything better than 4.

4 works best with a fast-forward button, just cut that movie down to the first 20 min or so, the Chicago fight, and then everything in China. 3 I tend to just skip most of the middle hour; that really should've been the best one but it's just too damn long. I actually like 2, though; it's bad but I can't help enjoying it.

I've only seen 3 once and I remember having a positive experience with it. You could be right though, I may get bored on a re-watch. 2 has some great action, I just can't stand its lack of focus due to the writers strike.

4 should have been great, but man, that script went in some funky directions.

Terrible movies, especially the second one, with the third and fourth being the most enjoyable. But....as far as action goes as well as PQ/AQ, these are must haves for me.

Own all movies on (3D) BD but a UHD boxset will be a day one buy for sure.

I adore the first one, it really is the best of the bunch, maybe not in terms of balls-out action (TF2 cornered the market on balls-out action, literally) but in terms of conventional movie-making junk like plot, tone, structure, music etc it stands head and shoulders above the rest. I ain't saying it's Citizen Kane or anything, but it's a goddamned masterpiece compared to the rest of them.

The second is an absolute travesty of a film though it's a mindless enough diversion for a couple of hours (IMAX version FTW). I like Dark of the Moon for all the NASA stuff, and Extinction I've only seen once but I was left feeling dizzy afterwards so I've been wary of revisiting it.

me too. the first movie is a great film and has it all. it was everything i wanted transformers to be at the time. the CGI at the time was mindblowing seeing them all tranform on the big screen. shame they got greedy and are now planning at least 8 movies in total.

What did you expect? These movies are a license to print money, not just at the box office but merchandising as well.

They're dumb but they're entertaining, I just wish they weren't 2.5 hours long. These last couple basically bent over backwards trying to come up with all sorts of backstory and exposition and character crap, I just want someone to tell Bay and co. to keep things simple -- all we care about are the damn robot fights.

Aye, there's the rub: the VFX costs so much to make (and so long to render, I think the IMAX stuff for TF2 took up to 72 hours to render per frame!) that it's never going to be wall-to-wall robot action goodness, there's always going to be plenty of padding with those pesky live-action humans.

They can have the same amount of robot action and still make the movies shorter. Damn connective tissue with all that plot and character development...

I happen to be a Transformers G1 fan and my main concern with the movie franchise is how Bay treated the source material. It's one thing not all robots don't really look like their animated counterparts but to have that Godawful forced, loud and most of the time unfunny humor in it really bothered me. Also there are literally hundreds of robot chararcters to choose from considering the source material, why the hell did he have to make up new ones?? These movies could have been really great, the exact same thing goes for Bay's Turtles movies...

You know, I am not a big Bayverse fan, but the films are great from a action/visual effects aspect. The first one was ok story-wise, two sucked, three had some great moments in it, and four was ridiculous but it had some great fight scenes in china and it had Optimus with a sword riding Grimlock into battle. That alone made me want to see the film.

I will probably skip the theaters and wait to get the film on UHD.
