OSAMU TEZUKA'S METROPOLIS, the spectacular anime based on the 1949 METROPOLIS manga, itself inspired by the 1927 German silent film of the same name, for the first time on Blu-ray in the UK, in a limited edition Dual-Format SteelBook (only 2000 copies) on January 16, 2017, and a Special Dual-Format edition on March 13, 2017.

Based on the classic comic created by revered manga artist and animator Osamu Tezuka (Astroboy), written by anime legend Katsuhiro Otomo (Akira) and directed by Rintaro (Galaxy Express 999), METROPOLIS is a spectacular film featuring stunning imagery and unforgettable characters.

In the industrial, tri-level world of Metropolis, Duke Red is a powerful leader with plans to unveil a highly advanced robot named Tima. But Duke Red's violent son Rock distrusts robots and intends to find and destroy Tima. Lost in the confusing labyrinth beneath Metropolis, Tima is beginning a friendship with the young nephew of a Japanese detective. But when Duke Red separates the two innocents, Tima's life – and the fate of the universe – is dangerously at stake.

Special Features:
High-definition presentation
DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack on the Blu-ray
Optional English Subtitles
The Making of Osamu Tezuka's Metropolis – a documentary on the film's production
Interviews with the films creators
Multi-angle animation comparisons

Looking forward to this. Haven't seen it since it was new (on VHS!), and I've long wanted to revisit it.

But woe to those who assume this is one of the out-of-print Metropolis steelbooks.

Wanted to buy the steelbook, but now that I see the cover art i don't.
I'd love it if they had that original poster that is in the regular release.

Preordered one! Been ages since I saw this the last time (might have been on a VCD, so qualitywise I probably can't even compare it with the Blu )

ZAVWEL54 currently works for 10% off

FINALLY! Been waiting years for this one and thought it would never get to Blu-ray. This is great news. Gonna pre-order right now. Thanks for the heads up.

Oh, there aren't many anime movies where the dub is better than the original language version, but this is one of them.

This got down to £19.79 with 10% off and free shipping from Zavvi, so no problem there

It was worse with Caligari, even with 10% off it is more than £25... Including free shipping it still hurts seeing the £19.99 from HMV. Oh, well, can't win them all

I always...ALWAYS wanted to check this out back when I kept seeing the DVD at Blockbusters and Hollywood Video.

Since this might be Region Free and a steelbook, now seems like a good time to finally get it, especially since it looks marvelous judging by the trailer Eureka put up.

So yeah...got my pre-order in.

I think Zavvi have a pre-order price gaurantee. Has one of their pre-order prices ever dropped before release and people got refunds?

I think it has happened to me once or twice (and considering the amount of preorders I've placed with them it amounts to an extremely small percentage!). But it's a moot point, I've excluded myself from that by using a code...
