Japan Lord of the Rings: Return of the King(Extended Edition)

They have finally released this as it was the only one missing from the set.

Yes, I finally got this one to complete the collection. These book-style cases are really nice in the shelf.

And some real-life photos of this set. There is one flaw with it.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

The slipcase is really a treat, just like the other two. It is thick and sturdy like the ones from the LOTR SEE DVDs (2002-2004) or the Hobbit SEE slipcases.
Another particular feature of the Japanese version: instead of using the part names as main titles ("The Fellowship of the Ring", "The Two Towers", "The Return of the King"), the Japanese use the theatrical "Lord of the Rings" logo.

The back with the White Tree of Gondor is also impressive.

But what's this? The slipcase spine (and the amaray one as well) has some major flaw! The New Line Cinema logo is missing from it, and the BluRay logo is moved up! That's really not nice.

The amaray contains an image of Barad-Dur. That was supposed to become the ROTK teaser poster (but wasn't used after all). Still, it was used on the LE DVD set.

The back of the amaray is Japanese once again..

Opening the amaray.

Booklet #3.

The inside is Japanese once again.

The disc labels.

The slipcase, the amaray & the booklet.

Trilogy pics

And here are some pictures of the whole trilogy. Once with ROTK in the front...

And once with FOTR.

The three slipcases next to each other. Looking nice!

The backs look nice, too.

And here my OCD flares up. Part 3 is seriously faulted by the missing New Line logo.

The amazon previews used to have the logo as it should be.

The side perspective.

The amaray art is missing the New Line logo as well. Highly mysterious.

Comparing with the big brothers, the DVDs from 2002-2004. Looking fine!

And here from the spine view. Apart from the missing logo, they look fine as well.

It looks really great! I wonder if they didn't forget to put the New Line logo on ROTK....

Son of a bee sting! They look FANTASTIC.

But I find it hard to believe that they'd forget to put the NL logo on the inside cover as well as the outer, perhaps it's a rights thing instead.

It took a year for this to be released after The Two Towers, so they might have forgotten how the other two looked

BTW, The Hobbit trilogy Blu-rays (Extended Editions) were also in the same book style cases, so all look uniform in the shelf.

Do you happen to have any pictures with these lined up against the Hobbit releases? Would really like to see that if possible.

I don't have the Japanese Hobbit sets. However, I've seen a pic of them at HiDefNinja:

It's annoying that the third LOTR film's spine is messed up and the first Hobbit film's spine is fatter than the others, but at least if you put them in order of theatrical release, the messed up ones are in the middle, next to each other. :\

I ordered all six from Amazon.co.jp last week. Amazon's not selling LOTR 1 & 2 any more, so I had to find marketplace sellers that shipped internationally. I got my first shipment in the mail today with all three Hobbits and ROTK. They're absolutely gorgeous in person.

Got the other two in the mail yesterday. I made an impulse decision to buy all of these and I absolutely do not regret it. These are all absolutely gorgeous.

You don't need to setup an account with Amazon.JP.

It uses the same account as Amazon.com.

I see. I don't know what was wrong. Lastly, these probably won't fit in the current us blu-Ray box set, right?

Are you sure? I tried going in to Amazon.jp and its saying "We dont recognise your email/password"

Those BDs look gorgeous BTW, the LOTR EE BD set (UK) captures some spirit of the DVD sets but it isnt the same

I was eventually able to sign in...I still had to renter my address but I didn't realize I could translate most of the website so I used google translate. I got all 3 tho for over $200 but since these box sets are definitive to me, they are worth every penny. The $800 series set with shelf? Not so much.

What an ass. They could've been made to fit if Japan wasn't so obsessed with using the thicker, 5 disc box sets.
