Default Shemaroo videos on YouTube regarding Digital Restoration

I just came across videos on YouTube by Shemaroo where they show the movies they have digitally restored.

These videos were uploaded recently (as in within a year ago)

Watch this one..

most of the movies shown here already have been released on Blu Ray (Anand, Chupke Chupke, Gol Maal, Bawarchi and Deewar; Khoobsurat is scheduled). So I am having an intution the others too are gonna have their place on Blu... I hope I am not wrong...

Found this instead:

Seems like the quality similar to Deewar will be seen in the future releases.

At least Baazigar has an HD master. In India, there have been numerous telecasts on the Zee Cinema channel. Very sad about Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, a film that could take great advantage of excellent restoration and remastering. Here's some pseudo-highdef crap I found of the Eros YouTube channel.
Even the aspect ratio is incorrect.

I have faith that it will happen and it will happen suddenly. Its one of my all time favourite classics. IMO Salman Khan's best and Aishwarya for that matter. Can't wait to see this beautiful film in HD

Not only that, but the film boasts some great technical values that lie in the soundtrack and sound mix which was way ahead of its times for some quintessential mainstream Bollywood movie. Dholi Taron and Nimbooda, even to day, shine on my living room TV system. Thanks to the DEi DVD, I at least have it in the best form on standard definition.

Why are they cropping and zooming in to turn full frames to fake wide screens when restoring these movies?

They are implementing typically Indian standards अब आपका टी.वी. वाइड स्क्रीन है तो पिक्चर भी वाइड स्क्रीन होनी चाहिए..

TBH, I watched PREM ROG over the weekend and I did not miss much. Maybe 5% like top of the sets built in RK studios at the most. It almost felt like PREM ROG was shot keeping 1.78:1 HDTV in mind. Cinematography was too zoomed out to begin with unintentionally, and this actually helps.

This restoration really brought out kolhapuris stellar performance, kapoors incredible direction and shammi's angry eyeballs.

I'm sorry but how can a cropped restoration 'bring out Kapoor's incredible direction'? If Raj Kapoor had wanted the movie to be in 16:9 he would have shot it that way. I'm sorry, but this cropping of movies to fill screens is just plain stupid.

PS: We should be writing to these companies and demanding a stop to this nonsense. This includes the TV channels too, who probably have a major say in this.

I'm just sayin'.

Some directors shoot with too much "zoomed" out lenses and "long" shots. Cropping picture from top and bottom may not affect pictures as compared to cropping from both sides. At the most 5% loss. Again, this is my opinion after watching PREM ROG shemaroo upload. Kapoor's vision is not really lost but only tampered with.

I'm still too afraid to see shemaroo's MERA NAAM JOKER cropped version. I was already avoiding it because of its length. Here, Kapoor's vision could seriously compromised if top and bottom are lost as there is too much going on throughout the movie. Be it circus scenes or "long" shots or plain "wide" angles. MNJ is just a much larger canvas film.

I also saw Shemaroo's JEWEL THIEF on YT Channel recently. After your comments, I saw first 15 mins of JEWEL THIEF again as to see why Shemaroo protected its original 4:3 35mm aspect ratio. Immediately you realize, Vijay Anand "close ups" are alternating with medium shots. Many of the jewelry shown are at top and bottom of the screen mostly. This means, you'll either not see the necklaces or see less than 30% of it if shemaroo crops the images. This will completely destroy director's vision. It is clear that shemaroo decision of going with full 4:3 35mm is not an accident.

I understand our point.

I'm sorry, but you obviously have little understanding of cinematography or shot composition. The entire frame, is how a director & the cinematographer envisioned it and thus shot it. At times with great thought, labor and pain. A scene may not have as much cropping of what you may consider as important. But any and all cropping, nevertheless destroys the original composition of the frame.
