It is, in Australia. Region A friendly according to the db. Also available in Germany.

Personally, I would be thrilled to have your "problem" - a movie I like not released in my region, but available in other parts of the world. In my case I wouldn't care if they were region locked because I have a region free player, but in this case it wouldn't matter because the Australian release of Whale Rider is region free. That's why I can't understand threads like this and why people would wait for years until something is released in their region when they could just import and have it right away, even though it might be at a higher price. I'd give anything to have some of my favorite movies being released in other parts of the world, just as long as I could watch them in glorious HD. I'm still upset how Disney Australia didn't release a top 3 most wanted release of mine for years now, What About Bob?, but they released other releases not available elsewhere, such as:

Whale Rider
Quiz Show
Turner & Hooch
While You Were Sleeping

It is on an all-regions Blu-ray from Australia or New Zealand or a Region B from Germany. The AU/NZ version is spoken English and has optional English subtitles plus extras that include a commentary track option. The Germany version has spoken English or German plus optional German subtitles and the same extras as the AU/NZ one. The German release is easy to locate, but is region B whereas the all-regions AU/NZ one is OOP and now hard to find. New copies can be found via ebay for $10us including shipping.
