Default How do Normal and Region-Free Blue-ray Players handle region coded DVDs?

If this question has been asked before, apologies. I need to find this out rather timely, though.

Thanks!

"Normal" Blu-ray players are locked to their respective DVD region, just like DVD players.

Modified Blu-ray players, such as the Oppos, are region free for DVD and region-switchable for Blu-ray.

My 2 region-free Sony 6500s players from 220 Electronics play all region DVDs automatically. No user action required. PAL to NTSC conversion is also automatic.

Some OEM players do play multiple DVD regions and some you can remote hack to do so, but as Naiera said they're usually locked to their territory.

I know by PS3 doesn't like region 2 dvds at all. My general rule is that unless it states differently, assume you can only play dvd and blurays for your region on it.

Blu-ray players, and especially PlayStations, are exactly as locked as DVD players were, unless you do something about it. There's nothing new about that.

It depends on the player. Some will switch automatically, others require a manual switch.

I think the US PS4 is able to play region locked DVD's but I believe is only limited to a certain amount of times, like 6 or 7.

I think it's 4 after the first change, so it's similar to PC DVD drives for those familiar. Shame they don't do the same for BDs, a few people would buy a extra PS4 and lock it to another region.

Really it should be up to the consumer to decide what region they want when they buy a player, you should have your 4-5 changes and then get to pick your region, that way we could buy two players and have region A and B.
