Oh, yes! So they found the original negative?! I’m not usually a fan of camp, but this movie hits my funny bone. Really excited about the Christmas horror short too. Didn’t know it existed.

HOLY SHIT this is huge news! Bob and Kino and the gang continue to dig up the vintage 3-D treasure, clean it up, and present it to us on a silver platter, literally and figuratively! Many thanks and much gratitude to all involved!

No. That's an error. The original camera negative has not been found. The 4K scans are not OCN.
The OCN, if it still exists, may be somewhere in Europe. Long story.

Too bad, whatever best 35mm elements are available will have to suffice. With a fresh 4k scan and 3-DFA on the case, no doubt it'll look significantly better than before.

Apparently MGM were going to distribute this originally. Would they have received the negative? Perhaps it was sent overseas for the PAL VHS transfer? Unfortunate, whatever the case.

It reportedly did quite well on VHS in the UK. Perhaps the somewhat deceptive cover art played a part. It would seem there was no US video release at the time.

I take it we won't be seeing a 3D release of Hot Heir flying high, or Chain Gang breaking out any time soon.

I believe Severin has the licensing rights to the Owensby library.

as reported in our own Silver Age thread three years ago. There hasn't been much news since.

It's good to see Kino moving forward with things, but I wonder if a complete release of Tales of the Third Dimension will be possible now, as it would seem Todd Durham may have acquired the rights to his segment.

The problem with a complete release of "Tales of the Third Dimension" is that there are (presently) no known prints and the original camera negative may be in Europe (if it still exists). Long story, but I really hope elements can be found.

Also, unless something new has occurred, "Hot Heir aka The Great Balloon Chase" cannot be found.

The other 4 (of the six 3D movies shot at Owensby's) have good elements.

A "correction" was made on the KINO Facebook page that reads:

Kino Lorber Studio Classics
Correction: 3-D Restoration by 3-D Film Archive – From 4K Scans of the Original 35mm Positive Print Elements

Good to know, but no doubt frustrating.

I'm grateful that Hyperspace has been spared that fate and will finally reach a 3-D viewing audience. It can't have had many 3-D screenings in the past.

That's good that at least 4 of the 6 are surviving.
Have you heard if 3D releases of the other 3 that remain are in the works?
I thought Severin had some of the Owensby titles, but that was a few years back and they've only released one so far. I wonder if a box set is in the works for some point, or if they backed due to having to make the 3 in 3D bluray?
Hopefully something comes as I'd love to see Rotweiler, Chain Gang, and Hit the Road Running in 3D!
It's too bad that Tales of the Third Dimension is incomplete and Hot Heir is nowhere to be found. I wonder if any of the directors have a film print? Maybe Worth Keeter has one?
