The Living and the Dead (2016)

I've been watching the BBC series The Living and the Dead for the past few nights, and I'm really enjoying it. It's set in the late 19th century. A young psychologist and his wife return to his family estate to take over the farming operation, only to find ghosts and curses and all kinds of strange phenomenon. There is an overall story arc and a "spook of the week" so it's good to watch an episode at a time, or to binge watch.

The photography, acting and writing are all top notch. Good use of location shooting. The ghosts are quite scary as well. There is a twist that is hinted at early on that is pretty unique for stories like this. I don't know yet how it's going to play out, and I won't ruin it for you with spoilers. But it should be interesting.

It's down to £10.99 at Amazon UK so it's a bargain too. Well worth picking up if you like ghost stories. Unfortunately, the series was cancelled after a single season, so there won't be more. (It probably was too costly to produce.)
