Dude, there is no firmware updates for HDTVs lol. Only for Blu-ray players and the PS3.

Not true; Panasonic releases firmware updates for their Plasma TVs, although they are somewhat hard to find and really only meant for Service Centers.

not true. i know for a fact that my tv has firmware updates, i just don't know how to get them. my tv has a thing under its setup that says "update firmware" and you can plug in a usb flash drive and update it.

Most of them are on the manufacturer's website...at least most that I've used.

Great. Just when you think you know what you're talking about . . .

Well, sorry but I'm new to this and I obviously don't know what I'm talking about. But if there is a firmware update, shouldn't it be on on Panasonic's website for HDTVs.

The link below is supposedly where you go to download drivers for your model. However, it appears there are no new drivers??? So, I'm not sure if there is one out or what...

Guys, just be careful with firmware updates for TVs. Like any other firmware update, they can really hose things up.

I received an e-mail from Sony last week asking if I'd like the latest firmware upgrade for my XBR3.

I have an XBR2 and have been debating as to if I should update the firmware you are referring to. Did you upgrade and if so were there any benefits?

Thanks

And to answer your question, stockstar, here is a quote from the e-mail:

"As part of Sony’s continuous quality improvement program, Sony has developed a software update for your television (models: KDL40XBR2, KDL40XBR3, KDL46XBR2, KDL46XBR3 only) which may further improve picture uniformity when receiving very dark image sources under dim lighting conditions. The software update was factory-installed in later production units of your television model. This software update can be installed via a USB Self-Service Software Update that Sony is offering to ship to you at no charge. Please note that this software update only addresses very dark or no-input scenes and normal television viewing will not be affected or improved."
