Added Remastered releases of Basic Instinct to the OP.

And apparently Lionsgate will not give the new remaster a US release:

Ridiculous that none of his Dutch films from the 70’s or The 4th Man are on Blu. Dutch cinema in general is just really neglected-even the Oscar-winning The Assault (1986) has never even been released on DVD in North America

Is there any chance Kino might do a collection of his earlier Dutch films? The old Anchor Bay set has been sadly OOP for so long.

Such a shame. Verhoeven’s commentaries on the Anchor Bay discs are exceptional

I may be in a minority but I prefer Verhoeven's Hollywood films to the few Dutch movies I have seen (Admittedly only Soldier of Orange and the more recent Black Book). I somehow felt he was at his best, or at least his wittiest, with the excess culture of Blockbuster Hollywood.

I have that old Anchor Bay DVD collection of his early films with the commentaries. Have they even been released since?

They were later released on DVD by Tartan Video here in the UK as well and can be had for cheap individually. I already had the Anchor Bay collection so they were redundant to me at that point.

Replaced the Showgirls Blu-Ray with the Remastered French release since it's Region Free:

And replaced the UK Basic Instinct release with the Australian since Aussie Studio Canal have been reported to be Region A friendly (Original Wicker Man):

The remastered Showgirls is IMO not a win-win thing. At least in caps the colors look more muted with a yellow leaning. I felt the US release feels truer to the bold flashy spirit of the film. I don't know if the new master was approved by the director, this is just my 2 bits.

I suspect most people feel that way.

Having said that, I'd definitely be up for a blu of The 4th Man.

I'm a huge fan of Verhoeven's Hollywood "blockbuster" films like Robocop, Basic Instinct, Total Recall, Starship Troopers, Hollow Man, Showgirls, etc.

I'm not that much of a fan of his early Dutch films like Spetters, The 4th Man, etc. They're OK, but they are low-budget & you can definitely tell they're his "early" films.

However, I'm also a huge fan of the Dutch film Black Book - one of the best historical WW II dramas I've seen. And, I would definitely put it more in the category of his big-budget Hollywood films than his early films. I.e., by the time Verhoeven made BB he was an established Hollywood director, and the movie's large budget & high production values are obvious.

Ouch.
Soldaat van Oranje (Soldier of Orange) is (imho) his best ever (also named best Dutch movie ever).

A shame this one (and The Fourth Man; brilliant film) never got a BR release ("thanks" to producer Rob Houwer who holds the rights).

Don’t forget Turks Fruit (Turkish Delight), which is my favorite of his Dutch work (though I like every one of them)

Does anyone here have the Blu for Tricked? If so, are there English subtitles?

4-Total Recall
5-Robocop
6-De Vierde Man (the fourth man)
7-Spetters
8-Turks Fruit (turkish delight)
9-Basic Instinct
10-Flesh + Blood
