Never even knew this series existed! I'm a huge Thunderbirds fan but wasn't a fan of the new series, is this anything like that?
I'd be all in for a Blu of the original series

This is really good news, was there not some talk a while ago that the HD masters of this were possibly lost? I'm positive I read an interview or article about that, so I guess they've found them after all.

EDIT: Ah it was on Gerry Anderson's official site about 2 1/2 years ago, they thought the HD masters were lost for this, but they've managed to locate them since then. I wasn't going mad!

Also available direct from Network for £19.50. Shame it's not the original series, maybe one day?

Heard good things about this series but never had chance to see it. Consensus seems to be that it's better than the CGI Thunderbirds, anyone any thoughts on that?

Also, Network are offering it direct at £16.25 ppd to UK customers (they do international shipping but no idea of the rates) but despite it's recent from the ground up cosmetic overhaul their site still isn't offering pre-order options

http://networkonair.com/coming-soon/...omplete-series

Can't see Amazon UK or anyone else for that matter beating that price.

EDIT: Apparently the above price is a site glitch, Patient-X was right quoting £19.50.

The new series is very well scripted, very dark like the original but this is more character driven. The CGI has dated somewhat in a way the original series models haven't but that comes with the territory. Apart from the CGI animation it's not very much like the new Thunderbirds series. It's a kids show but gets a 12 BBFC rating, which should tell you how adult a lot of it is.

I'd recommend giving it a go. ITV treated it abominably.

I just want the original.

The episode on the Supermarination BD looked lovely from memory.

As said earlier the UK price is actually £19.50 with free postage.

The £16.25 you quote is the VAT free price only relevant for non EU purchasers. There is a fault with their new mobile site which means on some phones and browsers it incorrectly shows the VAT free price even with a UK IP address. This is only corrected when you checkout and put in a delivery address.

I would be quite surprised if we don't get a Bluray of the original series this year too as it's the 50th Anniversary.
Network are well into their latest project of finally bringing ITC content to Bluray so to miss the 50th Anniversary just seems very unlikely.
They've just completed Randall and Hopkirk so I do wonder if instead of moving onto The Champions straight away the original Captain Scarlet might well be next in line and if it is I expect much of it is already completed.
If they're prepared to offer something a bit more exciting than an exclusive slipcover it would also be a good proposition for the next Network pre-buy

How irritating. I use a VPN so no doubt that's why I got the non-EU prices. Oh well. Still a good price.

I wouldn't assume that proper old-school Scarlet on Blu-ray is a given, a release may even rest on sales of this one. It's up to £29.83 on amazon at the time of writing.

They did indeed, it was cut to ribbons on that Ant and Dec show on a Saturday morning IIRC. Not even seeing Holly's Willoboobies makes up for how badly it was treated.

I would - although maybe not at the 50th.

I doubt it very much.
If only for the reason it was buried many people won't even know about it so sales of a show that's not really well known isn't likely to be any kind of indicator as to the popularity of a 50 year old show with the profile and fanbase of the original series.

Network have already released Terrahawks so I expect the only show that might never make it to Blu is The Secret Service.

I would expect Scarlet this year, Joe 90 next and perhaps a proper Thunderbirds reissue in between.
Network have already released individual episodes of all these shows

Australia got this show on DVD several months ago and when I spoke to the distributor about it, they said there were plans to release it on Blu-ray as well but they got dropped. So now Network will be doing what they refused to do. The thought of having Destiny Angel and Elaine McGee in Full HD sounds wonderful.

I'll definitely be getting this at some point. Thunderbirds Are Go is fun, if a bit throwaway, but the CGI'd Captain Scarlet series is on a whole new level! I was quite amazed at how adult it was!

Such a good series, really happy we are finally getting a HD copy of it, something I didn't think was going to happen. Some great stories, very dark in places. Yes the animation has dated a bit but still pretty good.

At the time I preferred this to the rebooted Doctor Who :-)

Conveniently, it's included in the current Network sale - about £12

Could that rating be down to something on the extras?
