Default Titanic : 16:9 vs 2.35:1

We had a thread like this before the release but now that it's out, which one do you prefer? (Don't consider the 3D. If you were to watch in 2D and if you didn't know what the OAR was, which would you choose?)

Please comment what screen you have (16:9 or 2.35 Scope Screen)

Open Matte 16:9 or 2.35:1

I usually like to get as much picture as possible, but I feel like the 2:35:1 works much better here. I said so in the other thread, but seeing Rose's full rear actually seems more tasteless than just seeing a portion of it.

I prefer the original aspect ratio the movie was made in, in this case 2.39:1.

Absolutely nothing tasteless about seeing more of Kate's rear....or front. 16:9 hands down! More information and much better visual impact on my 65" plasma.

If you didn't know what the OAR was and you had to choose based solely on your experience watching the movie, what would you choose?

OAR and it's technically 2.39:1 rather than 2.35:1.

2.35:1. I prefer a wider frame for "epic" movies.

I get that. It feels more 'cinematic'. That's the best I can describe what I feel with words .

I like both, a version that switches ratio would be perfect IMO. 1.78:1 for all outside shots, and OAR for inside shots.

No need to fear the rear

With 16:9 size, the boat now misses the iceberg rigth? So it doesn't sink? ^^

I prefer the way the DP composed the shots, so 2.35:1. That's how the film was envisioned, planed, and shot, regardless of any current tweaks. The lack of composition and mile of headroom in the 16.9 version looks atrocious.

LOL

I vote for 16:9.

Look! There's more of the movie.

I tend to want whatever was in the theaters originally but it this case change is good.

I'm a little confused. Isn't the way the film was shot presented accurately on blu-ray?

I would assume if Cameron intended the entire shot to be in the film there wouldn't be any black bars cropping anything out??

Which of those screenshots show how the actual blu looks?
