Info about the set:

Quote:
During the production of Star Trek: The Original Series, bits and pieces of episodic footage were left on the cutting room floor, then stored away in film cans for decades by the Gene Roddenberry Estate.

Now, in celebration of the show’s 50th Anniversary, The Roddenberry Vault has finally been opened. Along with 12 of their favorite episodes, fans can see and own behind the scenes footage from the making of the series as well as alternate takes, deleted scenes, omitted dialogue, outtakes, and original visual FX elements.

STAR TREK: THE ORIGINAL SERIES – THE RODDENBERRY VAULT Blu-ray set includes newly-produced special feature documentaries that incorporate the “Vault” materials and feature all-new interviews with cast and production personnel, including new insights from William Shatner (Captain James T. Kirk), writers Dorothy “D.C.” Fontana, David Gerrold, & John D.F. Black, director Ralph Senensky, casting director Joseph D’Agosta, visual effects artist Richard Edlund, and more.

Also featured is an exploration into the series’ long-lasting appeal through interviews with some of Star Trek’s biggest fans including The Big Bang Theory co-creator Bill Prady, The Simpsons writer/producer David Mirkin, Family Guy writer/producer David A. Goodman, NASA’s Bobak Ferdowsi, Bill Nye (The Science Guy), and many more.

The special feature documentaries are:
Inside The Roddenberry Vault – A multi-part glimpse at classic episodes from new angles and perspectives.
Star Trek: Revisiting A Classic – A look at life on the set during production.
Strange New Worlds: Visualizing The Fantastic – An inside look at the groundbreaking work of the series’ designers and visual effects artists.

STAR TREK: THE RODDENBERRY VAULT includes 12 classic Star Trek episodes in high-definition Blu-ray chosen for their relevance to the Vault’s lost/unseen material.

They should release this in a metal film canister, kind of fits the whole 'vault' theme.

Don't do it, it's a trap. As much as I love Star Trek (well all but the new films, those are ok) this is just a cash grab.

Yep, there's enough new stuff here for me not to consider this a cash grab. It's not like one of those Twilight Zone Fan Favorites releases, which are basically cash grabs. This offers hours of exclusive content that fans will surely enjoy.

STAR TREK: THE ORIGINAL SERIES – THE RODDENBERRY VAULT includes twelve classic episodes chosen for their relevance to the Vault materials, and presented in 1080p High Definition with both DTS 7.1 Master Audio as well as newly restored original Mono. Eleven of these episodes contain isolated music tracks. Newly recorded audio commentaries appear on three fan-favorite episodes.

cash grab 12 episodes? Yeah no thanks. Not only that but for $50+ again nothing but a cash grab all for the sake for the 50th anniversary.

One this is the type of stuff that should have been included in say the new set that came out. Literally just came out in September.

Again cash grab, they know that certain fans will eat the crap up with a spoon so they milk it. No matter how you want to polish it a turd is still a turd.

And for what? This...and some other random crap?
  • Inside The Roddenberry Vault Rod Roddenberry introduces viewers to the discovery of his father's long-lost Star Trek film reels. With footage from each of the 12 episodes, this three-part special feature offers a guided exploration into the historical significance of the newly discovered material through new interviews with dozens of Star Trek alumni and historians
  • Star Trek: Revisiting A Classic offers a look back at the origins of the iconic series, including glimpses of life on the set with new interviews featuring guest stars, directors and production personnel.
  • Strange New Worlds: Visualizing the Fantastic dives into the creation of spaceships, transporters, and the classic Star Trek visuals. The in-depth feature combines newly found original visual effects elements photography along with interviews with effects masters and Star Trek veterans such as Industrial Light & Magic founding member Richard Edlund, Doug Drexler, Dan Curry and Gary Hutzel.

So lets see...$76.99 totally not worth it. Sorry I love Star Trek, I really do. I mean more so then most people but I know how to spot when companies are clearly milking something. Yes this is a nice collection but not worth the price they are asking for it.

The MSRP is definitely ridiculous, but it'll inevitably drop down very low. Hoping this Steelbook is more reasonably priced

I would think it will be as well but then again sadly the price isn't up yet.
And yeah that MSRP is beyond stupid. I mean if they priced it at say...$45 then that wouldn't have been so bad.

My threshold for a double dip on the included 12 episodes is very low as I already have seasons 1-3, so IDK, maybe $20 - 25 for this as a steelbook. I mean, this packaging is really the way to go, that's why I'd even consider $25.

Why do I feel this going to be the same footage that Trek fans have been seeing at conventions for 40 odd years?
(All the blooper reels, etc. that have only been traded between collectors at conventions for years)

Well that could be very exciting. Roddenberry said in an interview that City On the Edge of Forever had to be cut down because it was originally much longer.

Thats one reason theya re including it among the 12 episodes.
So will this just be deleted footage, or will this contain the actual entire episodes with the footage folded back in?

Still no pricing on this item. I am hoping Zavvi or HMV will have this as a UK exclusive steelbook. I'd prefer it over a German steelbook (no offense).

I hope they clean up this found footage. These faded clips look like garbage.
