During my Sega fandom over that other console (NES) a platformer came to be that threw a hatchet right at Mario's face. It made commercial success & even jumped Sega into a wider gaming audience before Genisis...

My fav was "Wonder Boy in Monster Land" which was the second of four games in the series.

Great news, thanks. WB 1 on SMSystem and WB in Monster Land and finally WB III Dragon's Trap were all fun games for that system. I always wished they'd arrive on the Genesis but Sonic took the spotlight.

The arcade original version of Wonderboy wasn't as in depth with the RPG for obvious reasons, but has some of the same gameplay.

I only had Nintendos when growing up, so I never got to play Wonder Boy, but I'm always down for classic 2d platforming, especially when it has such an attractive art style.

Yes, plus this looks like it keeps the great gameplay of the originals intact.

Here's Wonderboy: Dragon's Trap, which looks like a level for level remake of Wonderboy 3. Even the enemy placement looks the same, with the mouse running and avoiding the clouds, then reaching that mouse maze. The cartoon graphics look great though. This will be on PS4 this month I believe.
