I created the same thread over on HDD, so I thought Id do the same here:
The Battle for Warner is heating up, so lets play a little game. If you were the head of the BDA or HD-DVD camp what would you offer Warner to make them go exclusive knowing that it would end the war and mean your side would win. Anything goes as long as it can be offered. Try to keep the stupidity down to a minimum. The BDA: Sony would share a percentage of the format royalties. Sony would also offer them their stake in MGM, which they failed to aquire before. $500 million in promotional incentives. The BDA would offer to build them their own replication facilities. HD-DVD camp: Higher royalties $500+ Million payout. I dont have many ideas here and Im hoping some of the die hards can make a suggestion. The above represent a desperate last ditch effort. Lets the games BEGIN!!! |

I dont think that BDA should do anything to woo warner other than show them numbers and put things into perspective. I dont think we should stoop as low as the REDS to get business. We should earn their business through facts and software sales

I'd offer them a knuckle sandwich. The longer they wait the bigger the install base of people who will be upset over their decision. You don't pull the band-aid off slowly, you rip it off.

I'd give them a graph of software sales...don't you think that would be enough?
And a box of Cheez-its, gotta have Cheez-its. |

+1. The sooner they go Blu, the sooner that this war can end, and mass adoption can occur. The sheer number of people that will jump onboard will quickly exceed any losses they incur from not selling HD-DVD discs anymore.

...close to my response. My offer would be "flip to BR and I won't put my boot up your @$$"

If we are counting on the BDA to do the right thing to end this war, prepare to coaster every BD you have.
This isn't some game of tag or catch. This is about billions of dollars, and the BDA is probably going to have to give away the farm to get Warner onboard. I say, a tit for a tat. This isn't about playing fair or playing nice. You already know where that got us. IE, see Paramount. |

Warner Bros already knows that BD is the superior format, victory is around us everyday and every week, 2007 is flawless victory for BD.
Our only thing that matter now for Warner's decision is to buy every BD desire or can be collected in our library forever. |

There shouldn't really be much that needs to be offered... at this point if Warner wants there to be a future in HD media, then there really is only one feasible choice.
They go BR and there's a good chance the format war would end within 6 months and people can get started on their collections without fear. They go HD DVD and both inevitably fall into a permanent niche status as the release numbers going in the future will be pretty even on both sides and it'd be another 1-2 years before another chance at victory for either side is there (which means the war has potentially gone 3-4 years at that point, which means it's past it chance for mainstream success) Warner, more or less, has the future of HDM in their hands and because of the gravity of the situation they really shouldn't be affected by which camp offers them the most candy and toys (I say this hopefully, not factually)... hopefully they have a bit of foresight (which seems to be something most on the HD DVD side lack, even and especially the customers). Blu-ray won't lose, from the start it was positioned (thanks to ps3 and very strong support from studios/ce) so it's future is solidified for at least 10 years (PS3 will be made that long, much like PS2 and PS1)... HD DVD never really had a chance of winning, at best it sought a tie. It was rather disgusting that Paramount took the candy without any care for the future, which makes me worried -- if a large company like Paramount can lack the sense and foresight and make a move that can cause real damage to the market (Toshiba is doing enough damage, they don't need help), then who knows? |

The thing that concerns me is that if Warner was offered the farm, how would the current bluray exclusive studios respond to it?
Whats to stop Fox or Disney from saying "Hey we've been on your side all along and we dont get anything from this? Why dont we see what the HD-DVD camp can offer us." |
