Forget Dragnet, this is Jack Webb's finest hour. It's everything people used to go to the movies for - a great cast speaking great dialogue in a good story imaginatively told and well paced without a single dull moment (this is one of the few films where the screenplay is credited above the title, and it certainly earns it). Great music, too.

Warner Archives has definitely stepped up its game in the blu-ray reissue area this year..."Yankee Doodle Dandy" will be out next week and now this!!!

Really looking forward to this. I think I saw it once on TV when I was a kid in black-and-white, panned-and-scanned, so the Blu-ray will be a revelation. Especially glad that all the trailers and bonus shorts are in HD for a change (unless that's just a misprint)!

I've never seen this, but the cast alone sounds great! However, this has only served to further confuse me about how Warner chooses the titles they release. Certainly there are at least a dozen noir titles that would probably sell better than this that they could have chosen.

I rented the DVD recently to see if I'd like it enough to buy the blu-ray. And I must say I could not finish it.

[Show spoiler]Jack was so wooden and his acting was so two dimensional, I could not relate nor care for his situation. I wish Lee Marvin played the lead and Jack had the smaller role. Jack was perfect for Dragnet but he had no charisma as a leading man in this film. I did not believe Janet Leigh could be in love with him for a second.

I would caution a blind buy. I'm still very happy they are issuing these older films on blu-ray and I hope they keep coming, but I'm definitely passing on this one.
