Default Playstation 3 Audio With Denon 3808

What is the best way to listen to audio when the receiver is on though multi channel in or though 5.1 stereo. Last night i had my external hard drive hooked up to my playstation 3 with my ipod music backed up on it and it would not play out of all speakers on multi channel i had to change the setting to 5.1 stereo.. Also when on the main playstation screen when moving from icon to icon with multi channel in i dont get sound out of my rear or center channel speaker but when i had changed it to 5.1 stereo i did. So i guess my question is when i play video games or music what setting should i have it on and when i play blu ray movies what should i have it on thanks....

oh yeah it also sounded alot louder when i played call of duty 4 on 5.1 stereo then when i play it on multi channel on the same volume level please help thanks

...check a setting for me...

in the Dennon, under HDMI Audio Output make sure its "off"

...also in the PS3 settings, make sure all the correct frequencies are checked off. (you should have just about everything checkmarked)

The PS3 cannot make stereo sources into 5.1, which is what the music on your iPod is. If you want the music to be in 5.1, you have to enable digital signal/sound processing (DPLII Music or DTS Neo or Logic 7) for that.

As for the CLICK sound while navigating the XMB, the sound is not supposed to come out via all speakers either.

Is there any possibility of the new audio formats in the PS3 in the new future?

Also how can I get the latest firmware v 2.10 for the PS3 other than through the PS3 (I keep having network connection problems thus not allowing me to upgrade)?

Different regions (UK/US/JP etc) have different PS3 websites. From there, you can downloaded the firmware. Using a USB flash drive or memory cards - it must be in the right folder ( PS3 -> UPDATE) - the update is possible.

Of course, the 40GB does not have the built-in card reader.
