Now that I have fully experienced both of these, I have to say 3D is still the best way to watch movies. Really good 3D, of course. I was watching Prometheus the other night and so impressed by the picture and all in 3D, and it made me really realize that 4k is nice and all, but not all its cracked up to be.

I'm done with 3D, that's as much of a gimmick as anything else out there. UHD all the way.

![]() Seriously though, I also love the 3D version of Titanic (saw it in IMAX, got the Blu-ray) but I've had enough of 3D in general. Seeing as the movie got a 4K restoration by Lowry it will look absolutely spiffing in UHD, if/when it gets released. |

I don't have Dolby Atoms. But if I do ever upgrade my amp, expect me to become a born-again evangelist for immersive audio too (though my hearing has suffered from all this home cinema nerdery over the years, even 7.1 is a bit wasted on me I think).

As much as am enjoying UHD, I am enjoying 3D a little bit more. Long story short, I recently got into 3D only a few months ago. Dredd, Edge of Tomorrow and Avatar blew me away. I have since purchased one too many 3D movies (around 60 total) and have enjoyed most of them, only two titles have disappointed me so far - Fright Night and Winter Soldier.
I must say though, the UHDs for Revenant and Sicario are right up there with my favorite 3D titles. |

I don't see why they can't combine the two. Having to pick between 4K and 3D is ridiculous.
I've just been opting for the 3D version every time. More dimensions is more immersive than more pixels in 2D. 1080p -> 4K doesn't have a high enough perceptibility difference to make it worth giving up the three dimensional effect. |

No offense to anyone, but I'm sticking with 3D. Like BD, it just works.
I know my LG doesn't have HDR, but apparently some models have HDCP and 10-bit color mapped to different HDMI ports. So you may have to chose between better color (limited to 1080p) or 4K with no extra color depth. At the moment, UHD seems like a technical minefield to many. |
