Default Jackie (Jacqueline Kennedy Biopic)

Natalie Portman has signed on to star as Jackie Kennedy in Jackie, a new biopic from Pablo Larrain, the Chilean director of Oscar-nominee No.

The film will follow the first four days in Jackie Kennedy's life after the assassination of her husband, President John. F. Kennedy. Darren Aronofsky, who directed Portman to her Oscar-winning performance in Black Swan, will produce Jackie.

Jackie Chan as Jackie Kennedy...that would be interesting.

A movie about Jackie Kennedy which stars Natalie Portman -- this is like a dream come true.

And Natalie in those fashions -- good lord!

Should make an interesting companion piece to JFK.

Could see it picking up nods for Actress, Costume Design, and Production Design, along with others if it's REALLY well-received.

I love Natalie Portman and Im sure she'll do fine in this movie. But honestly - Jacqueline Kennedy IMO is a rather boring person. What did she do besides marry into a rich family? I dont get the fascination with ths woman. Her hubby - sure, interesting story and JFK, while not based on truth IMO is a great flick.

I dont get the point.

IMO she was arguably the first of the First Ladies to "break out" if that makes sense. Before her, they were always the dutiful, slightly square, fairly elderly ladies in-step with their husbands who were running the show. And whilst Jackie didn't do anything particularly radical, the tragedy that befell her, and her life after everything that happened with her first husband, seemed to fascinate some people. There's the fashion icon aspect of it too I suppose. I guess it's the culmination of a lot of factors in modern American history at a vital historical and cultural juncture. She just happened to be at the centre of it.

That's a fantastic clip. Natalie seems to have just nailed the character. I cannot wait to see this.

Those of us who were alive for this tragedy are fascinated by it, whether by documentaries or movies......JFK, Parkland, 11/22/63...... it means something to us. Besides 9/11, perhaps our greatest national tragedy of this generation. This looks great to me, and while Natalie is not one of my faves, that trailer drew me in because of her. Looks fantastic.

I was born a few years after President Kennedy was assassinated. But it's always been something that's stuck with me. It's such an American moment, as you stated.

I remember the day JFK was assassinated. Like 9/11, it is an event where everyone who was old enough to remember, also remembers exactly where they were when they first heard the news. I was in Junior High School when an announcement was made over the PA system about a shooting in Dallas involving the President's motorcade. We all immediately said, well I'm sure the President is alright. A few minutes later, another announcement said that he had been shot and was on the way to the hospital. We all said, well he is just wounded but he will survive. It was inconceivable to us that he would die. In our classroom we watched the coverage on TV and I will never forget seeing Walter Cronkite struggle to hold back the tears as he announced that the President was dead; an incredible impact on all of us at such a young age. This event was the first real television news event to be covered wall to wall. All the networks suspended regular programming for days, covering the events, including the live shooting of Lee Harvey Oswald a couple of days later. Today, we think nothing of television news covering a story wall to wall but back then, this was entirely new and at the center of it all was Jackie Kennedy. She became the focus of the country's grief and sorrow and through it all, displayed a sense of dignity and grace. Whether or not she was a historical mover or shaker is certainly up for debate, but for that moment, she was at the center of the universe and for those of us who were there to witness it, one of those moments frozen in time as few moments in history are.

Such an excellent trailer, and was so happy to see it on the big screen in front of The Birth of a Nation. Definitely one of my most anticipated of the rest of the year. The visual aesthetic has me
