Default Jaws

Man this would be great in 4K. The Bluray restoration already blew me away.

I'd only be interested if Universal went back to the raw negative scan and made a new master without erasing the grain and fine detail like they did for the Blu-ray.

Given the release of Close Encounters and E.T. on 4K this year, I would say that Jaws 4K is almost inevitable in 2018 as more catalogue titles are pushed out. But there's no way another remaster is created - Universal will make use of the extensive Blu-ray restoration.

They need to make an entirely new recode, I agree. No more DNR and EE.

it's interesting coz when i first watched it on blu i felt it looked too clean and modern rather than a 70s horror film. upon revisiting it it faired better compared to most of unis catalog

I didn't realize that you guys had a 4K channel. I see Tootsie, Godfather 1/2, Out of Africa, The Sting, The Breakfast Club and Panic Room available as well. Wow.

Thought this looked pretty nice when it was a Fathom event in theaters a little while back. It'd be nice to finally get a lossless mono track when it's released.

Jaws is the most amazing Blu-ray I've seen. To each their own.

I think the DCP's that Universal is sending out to theaters now is in fact 4K resolution.

There's an explanation around that talks about how there is no dynamic difference between the mono track that's on the blu-ray and the uncompressed laser.

Impossible to improve on the Blu-Ray release but if they can AND a Atmos or DTS:X, I’ll be there Day 1!!!

I mean c’mon. It’s only the greatest film ever made.

I think the underwater scenes are too bright - just watch the shark cage attack, and the warm colour temperature looks like it’s been dialled up for Quint’s death.

The digital erasure is a sore point for me.

What a guess! For real, though, I am genuinely excited to have Jaws come out on an anniversary. Just feels like a title where that is befitting.

Probably the only film anymore where I don't mind special features, too. So I hope for new ones even though that might be pie in the sky... I probably watched previous features on DVD and blu-ray as much as BTTF.

Tbh the last time I watched the first two (“upscaled” to 4K) on my TV, I thought Jaws 2 had a more consistent transfer. There’s so much grain management on the Jaws restoration I actually don’t think it looks particularly great. Certainly not as good as it could look. It’s a rather soft-looking movie anyway but to see this in 4K with the way Universal has been putting out UHDs lately it could look incredible.

Both Blu-rays look good upscaled on my 43" SONY 4K. Jaws 2 looks very nice.

I can't wait to see the real deal in 4K.
