One of the best horror movies in several years! from beginning to end was non-stop intensity, just like Lost its just as much about the characters as it is about the mist. And the ending is one of the best endings of any movie, trust me, go out and see this.

Well I skimmed through the story and I heard it was pretty close to it...except for the end. So curiousity got me and I looked up the spoiler.
Wow... Frank Darabont knows how to make a King movie and even make it better. The ending is slightly different but it seems better to me. |

I got a chance to see it tonight so I'll give you some of my opinions. First off I thought Tom Jane did a really great job. The movie has you interested in his character and it does a good job of connecting you with him. Overall the acting was varied with a lot of good performances. The story was strong, but it did have moments that left you irritated with the way the characters were handling different situations...it does however fit in with the genre . Certain characters are played so over the top that it's hard not to get annoyed with them, ie. the religious lady.
Interestingly there was hardly any music playing during the movie so it makes you feel as though you're a part of what's going on. I did enjoy the ending, but I'll have to say it won't please everyone...few things do. All in all I was pleased with the movie, but my family didn't really care for it. It had some humor and some tense moments so if you're a King or Darabont fan I don't really see you disliking this movie, but I'd also recommend for those who like suspense/horror flicks mixed with sci-fi. It's a good movie, but far from great. EDIT: Depending on what the OP meant by saying it was the best horror movie in several years I'd have to disagree and say 28 Days/Weeks Later, and The Descent are certainly above this one. Well I was planing on seeing The Mist this weekend. But It's not playing in any of the theaters near me. If I want to see it I will have to drive 70 miles to see it.That sucks! I do want to see it as I loved The Mist.I read the story 3 times and I have the audio play. I thought The Mist would be playing ever where? Guess I was wrong.

I was a huge fan of the surround sound audio book which I listed to almost 15years ago, at certain points in the movie I closed my eyes to recreate the feel which worked until I opend my eyes again....So yes, the movie was only OK and was set at somewhat of a lacklusted pace. All that commotion in the storeroom and no one heard it(?), this event sets off the chain of events which leads to people choosing sides...all in all I say 3 1/2 out of 5...do yourself a favor and experience the terror of the audio book,,,seriously.

I just got in from seeing 'The Mist' and man did it suck. I really hated the ending and it just got long and drawn out somewhere around the middle with the religious lady going on and on...she was the most annoying part of the movie. At the end I just wished we had got to see what happened to stop the mist with the Army and all...seems like we got the wrong movie. I just felt that it was mostly talk and very little action. Thomas Jane was good peformance-wise but the film was a major disappointment and everyone seemed to leave the theater unhappy with the film. Too bad as it started out good and even manganged to keep my attention for most of it but the ending killed it for me.

Yes, but then everybody cheered and clapped when, well, you know, the religious lady, well....

Man that ending ruined it. Its a really really bad ending. Its not just that it was downer but it has the main character doing things that seem to go against what we saw of him for the first two acts of the film.

I thought the film was very intense. It was a compelling exploration of panic and conformity. The ending was just about the most brutal thing you'll see anywhere. My brother was actually pretty upset by it, as he couldn't fathom why the filmmaker would do what he did.
My only complaint was with the stupid trailers. I was super-hyped to see this, until I saw a trailer where the origin of everything was laid out. The whole appeal to me, as someone who never read the book, was to experience that revelation as the story progressed. But they had to go ahead and blab it all in one of the trailers i saw. I decided to see the film anyway, and am happy I did, but it would have been much better had I not seen that. I was very close to not seeing the film at all over the spoiler. I don't have any clue why the studio idiots do that all the time. |

was it actually thrilling? because movies like this dont really do anything for me, if i cant believe what's going on I cant really feel intense when your supposed too.
like the ring, everyone said it was such a great film and scary. it took me 3 days to watch that movie because it was so boring and i fell asleep every time, along with the grudge and all those japaneese "horror" movies |

I saw this movie tonight as well. While the movie definitely falls into the horror genre, I found it refreshing that the characters were more than typical horror cardboard cliche' cutouts.
I agree with what someone said earlier that the drama is mainly in the sense of impending doom as felt and experienced through the characters moreso than with the action or horror sequences themselves. Very Very good film, but man that ending will make you love or hate the experience, and it definitely shows that the director has balls for doing it his way. I guest my question is: This is BD exclusive, if/when, right? |

I wouldn't call this a horror movie. It's heavily character driven and the human conflict within the store is the real movie, and with that, I liked it. I thought the creature designs and f/x were weak(the tentacle scene, for one). Yay everything's king sized. I've seen that before(King Kong).
The creature scenes really pulled me out of the movie, and I impatiently sat through them until I could see what was going on in the store again. The character development was great, one of King's greatest strengths in all his stories. I thought the greatest fear was fear of the unknown. Honestly, I think if the audience never saw what was in the mist, yet characters were mysteriously being torn in two, it would have made it much more intense. And wow, a dark depressing ending. Good stuff! Happily ever after doesn't need to be every ending in Hollywood. Good for you Frank Darabont. |
