Any reason to keep old Disney DVD's? I have all the classics (and even some of the re-released editions) but I also have them on Blu-Ray and iTunes - I don't think i'll ever need to pop in the DVD again - ever. Does anyone know if there is any significant reason why I should hold on to them? Any special features included in any of them that aren't on the Blu-Ray's?
Thanks! |

Personally I like the better than it ever could have looked work, but some film purists don't like it. Can't help on the special features. They have web sites dedicated to the Disney vault and releases. I'd just Google it. The other reason to keep DVDs are for TVs or car/portable players for the kids. These kinds of players haven't made the jump to blu and likely won't considering we are 10 years into the format. |

I was going to ask, do you have kids that could watch these DVDs in their rooms or car.

No, no kids and I'm definitely not a film purist - I am a Disney collector, but I just feel like I could probably make a little money off of them and probably not miss them - I don't think i'd miss them anyway - they are stored away and I can't even see them without pulling them out of the drawer and I don't really see me ever displaying them. Kinda hard to part with them, I don't know. I go back and forth with this every once in a while.

Ive sold most of mine, for the vast majority there is no real reason to keep them unless you need them for the car or something. As for special features, check the Indvidual bluray reviews here, it will tell you what's missing. Most of the original blus are good though, its the 2ND release blus that stripped a lot of features. The only DVD I specifically kept for those was Fantasia Anthology, since the blu is missing a ton.
Unlike most DVDS which are practically worthless to sell you can easily get 7-10$ each for Disney. |

I guess I'll need to do some research if I chose to part with the collection. I even have the VHS tapes too - many of the Black Diamond versions and the 2nd releases of those as well.

Disney VHS are a dime a dozen.
Disney DVDs still hold value, but there are a lot of them out there. I have all of mine on Blu and I'm keeping the DVDs of the ones that obviously didn't jump to Blu. It is probably one of the best times to sell the DVDs because they will only drop in value over time as more Blu releases come out and DVD popularity decreases. |

The only title that I would say keep the dvd on is sword in the stone since the dvd is higher quality then the bd. |

My main issue with Disney Blu-ray is when they went through their "restoration process" they went so far as to over contrast or over saturate the color on scenes and in doing so they removed a lot of detail. This really irks me because we're talking of all companies, it's @#$%ing Disney and they can't even do a cross-reference check on how the films were supposed to look originally.
Go to sites like caps-a-holic and do your own comparisons. If anything that looks like there's detail missing, my advice is DON'T UPGRADE! You pay good money enough as it is, so you should deserve better treatment then what they're currently doing. |

I've looked around online for prices on Disney DVD'S, and they don't sell for very much. I'm curious as to know which titles people say you can probably get between $5 and $15 for. So far the whole list that I've gone through has most of them barely scraping $5. And depending on the site, the fees and shipping also cut into whatever small profit there is to be made.
I do know there are special features on the current Blu-ray releases that are missing from older titles, but you'd have to research each I title individually. If you want my honest opinion, try selling them all together, but try a high price and see if anybody is wiling to pay your asking price. As time goes on and your item doesn't sell, drop the price little by little until it sells. I've had a lot of success doing that. I've also had some items sit around for a loooong time with me not dropping the price, and it eventually sold for my asking price. Sometimes it just takes some patience. |

Well, this may be stating the obvious. But I feel in another 3-5 yrs we'll see the end of physical media and everything will be cataloged via "the cloud" or UV or whatever becomes the flavor-of-the-month at the time. Especially with Disney and their animations, these will be more popular with younger kids and smaller screens (cell phones, tablets, etc.) they are certainly not going to care if there is detail, color-oversaturation, DNR, digital filtering, all that's going to matter is does Mickey save the day and how mad does Donald get? All the "I's & T's" we worry about as adults on the quality and presentation doesn't matter to children. Heck, I can't even play an old WB or Terrytoon cartoon and have the kids happy.....if it's not in color and/or doesn't fill the HDTV screen....they consider it old, passe and a relic. We who have lived through different entertainment iterations have seen, observed, and enjoyed the progression of technology throughout the decades. Kids today are born into 200+ channels, itunes, internet radio and movies on your phone. Never to learn the joy of obtaining the Beatles White Album on LP, cassette, 8-track and CD (and now on mp3) while growing up!

I would say old is all on how it is presented. One great example is my niece a few years ago wanted to show me this hot new game on her tablet. The game? Sonic 2. She was astonished when I told her I played it when I was her age.
I don't think physical media is ever fully going away. Heck, they still sell CDs and I don't know anybody who had bought one in ages. |

I have sold copies of beauty and the beast lion king, lady and the tramp, Pinocchio and peter pan for like 20 to 40$ apiece. selling the platinum edition copies of snow white and Aladdin I got like 15$ a piece a few months ago. The rest of the platinum edition I have sold for around 10 to 12$. I sold everything on craigslist so theirs no fees and no shipping and way less bootlegs compared to ebay lol. The other nice thing about craigslist is the sites kind of built for haggling so I aim to list stuff about 20% higher then i want and sometimes people just don't haggle. I would say the only reason the prices are as low as they are on sites like ebay is because of just how many bootlegs are on their. I wouldn't buy any dvds from ebay as the majority of what I have seen are bootlegs making me lose all faith in the site. |

I have looked into trading them in through Amazon - well, you get amazon money, but still. I guess there's still a market for these DVD's as opposed to non-Disney DVD's.
The good thing is that all of mine have slipcovers, and even the inserts/ads that they originally came with - I guess that would count for something too. |
