Not really been a big fan of anything he's made since 13 Assassins.

Really? Hara-Kiri and Lesson of the Evil are awesome. The only movie I was slightly disappointed with was Yakuza Apocalypse.

13 Assassins was not a return to form?
That and Hara-Kiri (even though it's a remake of the original) are still great.

I guess I'm still the only person on Earth who thoroughly enjoyed Palme d'Or contender Shield of Straw.

Miike has no form. He is quite simply the most renegade filmmaker ever.

Note to Magnet: no edits this time, onegaishimasu.

Agree, and even 13 Assassins has his faults.

Making 100 films in the modern era is staggering.

I rented this from VUDU -- will probably watch today. It's also available on Amazon PRIME for rental.

I'm interested in watching some of his earlier DTV output. Although I imagine getting English friendly copies might be difficult.

I feel that his earlier work is interesting as a whole but perhaps the individual movies are kind of cheap and lacking.

The themes of family and brotherhood are interesting. I always liked the low level Yakuza in his movies.

Osaka Tough Guys is real fun.

The good news is that I think there is only 1 cut of this movie.

What a load of nonsense, many great films in his v-cinema backlog!

I went to see this last night in Bristol and really enjoyed it; the long film time just flew by! It had a real Shakespearian tragedy element to it, especially with the twists. Some reviews have said the film is a slog due to the constant fighting, but it's the quiet times between the fighting that are interesting (not that the constant fighting isn't great, because it is). I'm not particularly familiar with this genre of film (being, mostly, a horror / sci-fi / fantasy fan), but I'd sure like to see some more in this vein!
