Default Will there ever be a new Looney Tunes movie?

Space Jam was big. Looney Tunes: Back in Action did terrible business. Most recently, the Looney Tunes have starred in The Looney Tunes Show. A new Bugs Bunny show, Wabbit, is on the way.

In 2010, it was announced that a Bugs Bunny movie - a CGI/live action hybrid - was to be made. Apparently, it was scrapped. And so was the planned Pepe Le Pew movie - also CGI/live action - also announced in 2010, that had Mike Myers attached as the voice of Pepe.

Bugs Bunny used to be the mascot of Warner Brothers, and the Looney Tunes used to be more popular. Aside from the ones who watch The Looney Tunes Show, do young kids today, in general, know about the Looney Tunes? Do you see a lot of Looney Tunes merchandise around?

I won't say the Looney Tunes have been forgotten by WB. They have their place as iconic characters, there's The Looney Tunes Show, Wabbit. The Looney Tunes characters are used in Six Flags amusement parks. There's the Platinum Collection Blu-rays, and Looney Tunes: Back In Action is making its way to Blu-ray.

But the Looney Tunes aren't utilized as much as, say, the fab five over at Disney - Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Minnie, and Pluto. You would have a hard time finding a child who can't identify those five characters. I would say that Mickey and friends have more of a "presence" than the Looney Tunes do. Whether it be in Disney theme parks, on Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, or general merchandise everywhere. Mickey Mouse also appears in front of all Walt Disney Animation Studios films in the logo.

I think Warner Brothers should take a chance on the Looney Tunes and give them another theatrical movie. Back In Action came out at a time when 2D animation was essentially passe and "dead."

If WB made a new Looney Tunes movie that was a CGI/live action hybrid, it could be successful. I do believe you can maintain the spirit and humor of the Looney Tunes, whether they be in traditional 2D animation or 3D animation. Characters like the Muppets should always remain physical puppets, but the Looney Tunes don't necessarily have to be 2D animated. 3D animation is still animation, and if it takes transcending 2D for them to survive, then that is what should happen.

How many kids were familiar with the Smurfs before The Smurfs movie became a hit, spawning a franchise? Whether kids know Bugs, Daffy, Sylvester, and Tweety or not, if the movie looks fun and appealing and humorous, they'll want to see it.

I think a movie made in the vein of The Lego Movie is what the Looney Tunes need. Something that can appeal to children and older people.

Speaking of that - WB should have released a Looney Tunes short in front of The Lego Movie. That way, every child that went and saw The Lego Movie would have seen that short and been exposed to the Looney Tunes. The next step would be to give the Looney Tunes a show in the vein of Phineas and Ferb, or at the very least, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.

And once the brand has been re-established, give the Looney Tunes a new theatrical movie. The Muppets made a comeback in 2011 -- I'd like to see the same happen for the Looney Tunes.

I've always been more of a Disney fan, but the Looney Tunes have a special place with me, too, and I think it's sad that they're almost forgotten today. Sorry for the essay -- th-th-th-that's all, folks.
