Default Universal Classic Monsters Limited Edition 4K UHD (1931-1943) Feb '24

now Feb 13 2024

Universal Classic Monsters: Limited Edition Collection 4K Blu-ray

Universal Classic Monsters: Limited Edition Collection 4K Blu-ray

Universal Classic Monsters: Limited Edition Collection 4K Blu-ray

Limited to 5500 Copies.

This is my first time doing this so I will remove this statement once I make any corrections needed. There was no forum post for this specific limited release. And I think it's a really cool one. For people who have yet bought any of these movies. I have the 2K versions with extra movies and I will definitely be getting this.

Interesting that Universal would do this. I would actually double dip if the UM 4Ks came in a "collectors set" but I'm not really into the art style of this book.

Maybe if there was some type of bonus disc or other incentive but as it is, it's kind of a reach at $125 when one can get all 8 4K discs for significantly less (amazon has box for $46.)

As far as I can see you have to buy vol 1 and vol 2 to get all 8 movies in 4K which = about $80.

Nevermind I see the one you are talking about. What's the blue "M" thing about? Oh I see, I think it's an Australian release. Me personally, I collect only US Region 1 / Region A stuff. And I love the book, as it's probably about the same size as the Godzilla Showa Era book I have. I dig the layout of each movie getting a page, and the easy access to each disk. It's like I can thumb through the pages to get a feel of which movie I want to watch before picking.

But I get it it's not everyone' style. The limited nature of it had me pre order early.

I got the Australian set on Amazon for $50. Better packaging IMO. I’m good.

I like the cover, but hate this style of packaging with the slide out pockets. Pass for me.

I MAY get it just to have all the 4Ks in one handy package. Also, the artwork is kinda starting to grow on me...like mildew on the wall of a dungeon.

I already have one large book like this, and I like the style of packaging where you can thumb through pages about each movie before you watch the movie. Godzilla Showa Era did this and it's about the same size. Also Arrow's Shaw Brothers have that similar book style and it's great!

The fact that I haven't watched these in 4K yet, plus it being limited was the deciding factor for me.

Singles for me. These movies are important enough to own individually. I hate how they all get lumped together. It cheapens them to me.

Plus, I can skip Phantom. I already have the real Phantom.

At that $125 price, it would be cheaper to get the 30 film boxset for $70 next time it's on sale on Gruv and the 8-film Australian 4K boxset for $46 right now on Amazon. You can then swap the 4K discs into the bigger box and own every UCM film for less money than this single edition.

I actually had your idea. I bought the OG 2K releases while they still had slipcovers. I probably will end up still keeping them. Because they look nice. But unfortunately Bride gets lumped in to the Frankenstein set. And Creature didn't even have the 3D version. So that already cheapened it for me.

But I like this big book and it being limited. To me that does the opposite of cheapen it for me. I can't wait to watch these in 4K, and I think this big book FEATURES it in my collection.

Unfortunately I don't have creature because I already had the 3D version, and I just don't care for phantom. So I don't have the "full set" but I liked these individual releases in their own slipcover over the complete set because I like them individually as sort of just a personal collector preference.

Anyone think this will be sold by Gruv, as well?

Yeah, I think they missed the point of "classic."

The Creature set literally uses the same disc that’s been pressed since 2012 so the 3D version is included by default. The 4K disc lacks the 3D version.

I see thanks for that. I guess my reasoning must have been not wanting to spend $20 because it had such a small amount of content compared to the others. But thanks for that correction.

Can anyone say whether the 4k of Phantom starts with the Universal globe sting, or if it is absent as per the blu ray of it?

That film never had a Universal opening globe.
