That's interesting. Too bad they're not replaying them in IMAX or 4DX too. I see the ScreenX in Warrington, PA has showings of WW84 and Aquaman September 17-23. Then on the 24th, they start showing Detective Pikachu and Guimoon into the next week until the new movies take over ScreenX. And, Bohemian is ONLY showing in ScreenX one day on the 25th.

Also, price is $7 for all showings. And Harry Potter 1 is playing in 4DX a couple days this month for $8.

I’ve never attended a ScreenX presentation before but one recently opened in my area at the beginning of the summer and I plan to go for “No Time To Die” or “Venom”. Where is the most optimal place to sit for the best experience? Dead center of the auditorium (middle from front and back of the house, and directly in the middle of the screen so you get action on the sides too)? All the way in the back row, middle seat?

It really depends on how good your peripheral vision is.... If it is strong, maybe dead center of the auditorium, otherwise more towards the back.

A 4DX showing means it is in 3D, with the "theme park" experience of moving seats and water sprayers?

Is this concept a way to make small auditoriums, with small screens, feel bigger?

Guimoon looks interesting. I've never heard of it before but it seems like horror would be effective with the expanded screen area. And it seems to be Wonder Woman 1984 and not the original.

Yes, moving seats, water, wind. They split 3D and non-3D at 4DX here. I'm not sure how big the 4DX screen is, but it seems pretty big to me here. Maybe not, because I sit pretty close, but the quality of the image seems great to me. The theater has 172 seats, although due to gaps between the seat rigs, would probably have fit 200 normal seats. Maybe even more condensing space from front to back.

Is the Harry Potter 1 showing in 3D?

Even without the 3D, Regal will give you all that in exchange for a 7 or 8 dollar ticket? Seems like I'm in the wrong area as the theaters here, including the Regals, have fewer features and higher prices. Just the ticket upcharge for DBOX here is over 8 bucks.

For this ScreenX thing, there's no new, extra-wide footage for these movies? When I first saw this, I thought it might be "CineRama Redux" but if the idea is to instead put the "center" of the frame onto the movie screen and project the sides of the screen onto the walls, would that make for a weird watching experience?

The Regal near me isn't showing it in 3D but it is showing up for me as 4DX for $8.

Wikipedia lists Guimoon as specifically being produced with ScreenX in mind. Not sure if that applies to any of the other movies.

Potter is not a 3D movie. 3D wasn't being made when it came out, and it's not one of the few like T2 and Titanic to go through a conversion.

$8 is just the price for these because they're reissues. Normally 4DX is about $20, same as IMAX.

I never saw ScreenX before. When I was at that theater, the screen was closed. I now realize that it seems only a handful of movies are made for ScreenX, so the theater won't be in use that often. The YouTube comments make it sound like it's not that great a feature, but I imagine if a movie is specifically made for it, it might be better. But at $7 it seems like a good time to try out WW84 or Aquaman, which certainly had nice visuals. I don't know the normal price for ScreenX.

FWIW, the 3D guys here report that Harry Potter I was given the 3D treatment and a theatrical release this year, but that it is international only. I was hoping to hear that it had crossed the pond.

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...=326717&page=4

I wouldn't mind seeing Aquaman again. So the idea is that Aquaman had extra-wide footage shot for it years ago that just hasn't really been seen? Some of these reviews I'm reading seem to say that if the movie has parts that are not extra-wide the walls go black and the only image projected is on the main screen. Is that right?

But heck, for 8 bucks I'd try it. I'd just have to find a Regal theater that doesn't act like 3D IMAX, 4DX, and ScreenX are terms that I made up to mess with them

Although, in their defense, maybe we're just under a rock here because this ScreenX has apparently been around for 6 years now but I'm positive I haven't heard about it before this thread.

Better check if you have it, there's only one in Pennsylvania, and it would be hours of driving to get to the next one in New York or Virginia.

http://www.screenxmovies.com/theater/theater.php

I did see on YouTube that the side screens go dark during some movies. Sounds like the way some movies open up to an IMAX ratio for some scenes. I think some call this the horizontal IMAX.

Yeah, it looks like there is extra wide image added to the ScreenX versions that isn't in the normal version. I compared these two videos. When the shark hits the window, you can even see more of his body in ScreenX:

I'm also reading that when filming, they capture the side screen images with separate cameras. So that's why the screen isn't seamless. But this Guimoon film was shot with a camera that picks up all the images at once, and the film was I guess specifically conceived with ScreenX in mind, so that's why they're showing it again. But the projection is still going to happen on these three distinct screens.

Depends on the movie.. birds of prey you can sit in the middle but with black widow sitting in back seem better. I was still in the middle.

I think my local theatre got bad boys 3 as the first movie then birds of prey.. its been pretty quiet until black widow came out.

I saw Wonder Woman 1984 in Screen X back in April. That had it playing when Regal reopened here and the theater had been renovated during COVID shutdown

I've also seen those two. Quite happy to watch WW84 as well. Maybe even Aquaman.
