Hi Fellow HT Enthusiasts
I've always been a keen movie watcher, and i started off with all the basics before i learnt about the nuances of Audio and Video. From my little humble 'room' to my dedicated Home Theater setup, its been a great journey and it just got better as the years progressed. My First 32" Sansui HD-ready TV served me well; in fact it still does, it's now installed in one of our bedrooms. My first Audio setup was a 2.1 channel Logik speaker system, and i was blown away by what i was hearing. I thought that was the Shizznizz of audio, until i was introduced to a proper 5.1 setup by a friend. That audition changed my perception of the Logik system ![]() Browsing the stores i found my first HTiB, the Sony 6.2 MuTeKi system. I installed the system and found a world of difference. One problem though, the receiver's HDMI's only supported video and not audio, what a schlep!! I decided to keep this system due to finance, i thought at a later stage, i'll upgrade. In the meantime i got my PS3, WOW, what was i seeing and hearing (I Used the Digital Audio port), even though this was still a downscaled audio. Cut to the 2010 FIFA world cup here in South Africa, Sony had specials galore; the 32" Full HD TV was selling at an unbelievable price, i had to lap this up. I installed the TV and immediately was utterly blown away by what i was missing on the other TV. All the meanwhile, my blu ray collection amassed to about 300. Shelves has to be installed. After some time, i was contacted by a friend who saw a great deal on the Onkyo TX-NR 609. I bought it without hesitation, i am still using this reciever and i love it. I did have some issues with the HDMI board, but notwithstanding the sound was amazing. I connected my Sony Speakers from my previous setup to the receiver and what i heard was earth shattering. The previous receiver really didn't use the speaker set well enough. I had the Sony TV for 2 years before i was bit by the 3D bug. I had a couple of 3D blus, but no use for them. When the time came, i found a 42" LG 3D TV that i liked. Upgraded and it was stunning, even normal 2D content was just brilliant! This was my setup for a while, before the rising need in me to upgrade surged again. After viewing the amazing galleries here i decided to research New Speaker sets and Subwoofers. In the meanwhile, all was well and good with buying a new speaker set, but where was the space??? I needed to renovate before i could do anything else. If you view my construction gallery (link below), you will see the room setups before and after the renovations. There was a 2m passage in front of my room, which was a complete waste of space. We broke the wall between my room and the passage and incorporated the extra space to my HT setup. Needless to say, as simple as i thought it would be, it took just over a month to complete (including another section of the house that was also being renovated). During this time, i auditioned a few speaker sets and was thoroughly pleased with the Polk Audio TSi 500 floorstanders, the Polk CSi A6 center and the Polk Audio TSi surrounds. I held off buying the subwoofers as i thought i'd rather buy a good one and not just settle on anything due to finance constraints. I'd still use the Sony Subwoofers in the meantime. I also had previously bought the Wharfedale 10.1 Diamond surrounds. This would ultimately complete my 7.2 setup. After the gruelling renovations, i had asked for all wires to be hidden, so there were small tweaks that had to be made, complete with in-wall tubing to cater for these hidden mess. Finally everything was done, Installed the setup and had an orgasmic audio / visual experience. Music, Movies and even my vinyl stunned me. A year passed, browsing on Amazon.com, i had seen the beautiful JBL ES250PBK go on sale. I bought two of them. They were delivered within a week and installed within an hour (complete with a Voltage Changer as the US differs to South Africa). The enhancement i heard was fabulous. Later on, i felt the the distance between the seating area and the TV required a larger screen, thanks to some suggestions made by fellow members on the India section; i bought the Optoma HD25LV and Elite Manual 109" screen. That just perfected the viewing experience for me. That's where i currently am, and believe me when i say that i am completely satisfied with my setup.
