Default Dark Knight Stigma... any thoughts?

"Warners are in a difficult position. Initially they wanted to capitalize on the early buzz that has surrounded Heath's performance," Bock told AFP. "Now they're going to have to do a 180 from that."

firstly, this is an extremely tragic occurance. heath ledger was an amazing actor and what's more, he was so young and had such a promising future...
that being said, how do you guys think the public will react to the release of "The Dark Knight"? With the main focus of the movie (so far) and the heavy advertising basically using Heath Ledger's Joker as the driving factor whats gonna happen now? will Warner have to change their ways? would that be a good move? if they don't what then?

I think people will flock to see this, if not for the movie, at least to see the last roll of a young and very good actor.
They should advertise how well it was acted all around, and not just that it is his last roll, because then people who don't know or care will be likely to see it as well.

Nothing will change. Heath's death, while tragic, doesn't stop the world from turning. Business is business. Remember The Crow and Brandon Lee? If anything they promoted his role in that movie MORE. A lot of people saw The Crow that may not have otherwise.

As sick as it may sound (and thats not my fault, its the truth) im sure MORE people will go see it now. There is a LOT more buzz about the Joker character than there was before and a LOT of people will want to see his final performance.

It does change Warner's advertising approach, but in reality they're getting a lot of free advertisement as it is.

yeah but is this right? i mean even if this isnt the intention of the studios i agree it will happen... what's gonna be whack is if people start thinking that the marketing based on the Joker is to exploit this

I thought about the dilemma the studio faces at this point. You know, I believe that all three of James Dean's motion pictures premiered after he died. One has to have mixed feelings seeing a performer on the big screen when everyone watching knows that he/she is gone.

There will be people who take offence and think they are trying to make money off of a tragedy... but there are always the type of people that are quick to believe the worst in others....

I don't think the movie will be effected by this. The movie was going to be huge, either way. More people may go see it though to see the final performance of a great actor.

His death is a horrible thing, however it's probably the best publicity for the movie that could ever happen. People will put strange meanings on his performance that probably aren't deserved.

I think that Warner should just continue on and of course NOT advertise it as his last movie, but as a movie that shows off the acting talent of both him and Christian Bale.

I was becoming more and more of a fan of Heath Ledger, his acting was getting better and better, and his range was becoming more and more apparent. It's a great loss.

I'm also very sad that tragedy has struck yet another Terry Gilliam film since that was Ledger's next project...

Everytime they mention his death they mention The Dark Knight...its not right but its happen.
I agree people will flock to see this movie.

Remember the movie S.O.B.? As Richard Mulligan's character is shot and killed after he tried to steal back his film from the studio, he cynically responds as he is dying something to the effect: "Ten million more at the box office!"

Sadly, there is truth in that.

I think the focus should always be on Batman and his role. The villians in the Batman universe are the best, but the core of the story is about Batman...a man haunted by his parents' death and therefore uses his financial means and physical prowess to fight evil.

If WB decides to focus less on the Joker, but wants to focus on a villian...then this movie should be about Harvet Dent...

Do you know how involved Heath was to be in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus? I know they were supposed to be here in Vancouver next week to do something... blue screen effects work I think.

Didn't they finish 'Gladiator' after Oliver Reed died? Some of his parts were CGI. I'm not saying they've done this with Batman, as it's probably already in the can. I just thought I had remembered hearing something about this in Gladiator...

Heath Ledger was getting better and better, and I am really looking forward to seeing him and Christian Bale share the silver screen in this film. It's just sad to know his growth and life came to such an abrupt end.

With respect to Warner's advertising... I don't know. As one poster said, they were really pumping up Ledger's performance for the ads. If Warner continues that (which I doubt they will), some cynics will cry "ethics" against WB... I suppose we'll have to sit and wait...

But its not sick is it? Heath would want the movie to do well and for his performance to be liked I'm sure.

k? btw they focused on christian bale as the new batman for batman begins and now they went in another (IMO, smart) direction by focusing on the Joker... just too bad we wont get a chance to see heath in sequels
