Default What's Your Favorite Old Movie? (pre 1970, more or less)

So, what's your favorite movie that pre-dates the "New Hollywood" era?

Mine is and probably always will be "Lawrence of Arabia." Something about it never fails to excite me.

Torn between Wizard of Oz and 2001.

Ok, Wizard of Oz but only because it could appeal to a wider audience.

My all-time two favorite movies are both older than 40 years... The Graduate and 2001: A Space Odyssey. My next favorite movie is Taxi Driver, 35 years old. A couple of other notable favorites include Casablanca, Sunset Blvd, Persona, Jules et Jim, La Jetee, Sullivan's Travels, and Ace in the Hole.

Can I pick 10? How bout 20? Way to difficult to actually pick one but if I most, I most....

I will go with Wait Until Dark, my favorite movie from my all time favorite actress.

Easily Wizard of Oz. I read all of the Oz books when I was a kid and I just love the movie. It was one of the first movies I watched when I got my projector last year.

I do not think anyone could argue with "Lawrence of Arabia". Hopefully we will see it on Blu-ray next year (50th anniversary). Besides LOA, my all time favorites would be (In no paticular order)

Ben-Hur
The Wizard of Oz
Gone With the Wind
Shane
To Kill a Mockingbird

Of course there are many more "favorites".... but I will stop with these six outstanding films.

+1 for me, as well as the other 60s Leone films.

Kubrick (specifically 2001) and Lean are in close running.

The number of films I truly love drops off precipitously before the 50s.

couldn't possibly just pick one but as far as my "oldest" favorites--

KING KONG
THE WIZARD OF OZ
CASABLANCA
THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON

those are my favorites from the 30's, 40's, and 50's anyway....
