United Kingdom Heavenly Creatures (Peter Jackson) September 2011 - Review

Heavenly Creatures Blu-ray

Heavenly Creatures Blu-ray Review

Never liked this film as I found it unwatchable. Wanted everone in it to die in a fire related accident. Horrible characters.

Unusual pickup from Peccadillo http://www.peccapics.com/View/id,219

There is damn cheap Canadian version but I don't know anything about the transfer really

I think the Canadian one is not very good, from what I've heard (1080i and wrong aspect ratio, I seem to recall?)

I quite like this film, will probably pick it up. Unless I'm mistaken, this film was never even released on DVD in the UK so it's a bit of an event (for those that like it, of course...). The characters were unlikely to be likeable given the story on which it is based, but I did at least find them compelling.

I love this film, almost as much as Bad Taste and Braindead. Totally different genre of course, but Its a very well made film.

I like the slipcover.. hope its the full NZ theatrical version. Its a shame it wont have any special features.

I'm very glad to see this news. Hopefully it is better than the Canadian release.

I hope both cuts are available. I prefer the shorter cut (the pacing is a lot better), and since that's the preferred cut of Peter Jackson, I hope that's the one that's released. But for the people who like the longer cut, I just hope both will be included. And a heap of bonus material (it's a Peter Jackson movie).

Buy the Canadian edition, it has the green tint!

Just kidding, but it's not too, too bad for 1080i. A few lines and digital noise, but it's much nicer than the DVD. Had I known that a newer version was coming, I'd have waited. I bought mine with the new LOTR EE set yesterday at FS.

Grrrrr. Why do they keep releasing improved versions of films after I have bought the supposedly crappy Canadian ones???

Only DD 2.0 stereo and the 2.35:1 aspect ratio cropping off Melanie Lynsky's superb breasts?

I'm out - great pity.

Eh? 2.35:1 is the correct framing for the film.

It is annoying, however, that the press release states lossy audio, but I'm hopeful that it's a typo, and that the picture quality will be top notch.

The New Zealand cut is the best version. It's a bit stupid of Peccadilo not to include both.
Shan't bother.

I believe it was shot in Super35 - when unmatted, Melanie Lynskie's superb upholstery is visible. This is about the only time in cinema history when an open-matte version of a film has it's advantages!

It's also the first time I hear about somebody not buying a Blu-ray because a pair of breasts (that weren't visible to begin with) aren't visible. To each his own, I guess.
