Quote:
legendary horror writer/producer/director william castle (the tingler, strait-jacket, rosemary's baby) presents a creeping, crawling film nightmare that will have you screaming and squirming with fright! A massive earth tremor opens a crevasse in the california desert, releasing a plague of bizarre, fiery, foot-long cockroaches. With their numbers multiplying and the death toll mounting, obsessive entomologist james parmiter (bradford dillman, piranha, the swarm) desperately seeks a way to eliminate the seemingly indestructible critters before they spread clear across the country ... And beyond! Joanna miles (the dark secret of harvest home) and patty mccormack (the bad seed) are among the terrorized cast in this suspenseful screamfest directed by jeannot szwarc (jaws 2).

This looks extremely stupid.

I'm interested.

It's a bad movie. I first saw it in the 1970s. It was inspired by the Hephaestus Plague, a novel by Thomas Page, which was made into a creepy-ass pseudo documentary about what would happen if the world was overtaken by insects. Page co-wrote the screenplay with filmmaker William Castle for Bug. The movie is very low-budget and schlocky. If you like this kind of film, it would be better to seek out the Hephaestus Plague which is a much better and more effective film. Hope this helps

I was hoping for more positive outlooks, cause I'm loving the cover. Might have to watch this somewhere first, instead of blind buying this.

Haven't seen it since the '80s, I remember it sucking bad, but it's been so long I'm almost curious to see how bad it still sucks.

It has a few laugh out loud bad moments but I always thought it was a solid insect shocker, even though the pacing is a bit slow.
I remember when Paramount first released this to VHS along with Phase IV and Let's Scare Jessica to Death (and probably Prophecy) all on the same day. Good times.

My headcanon is that this is the side story sequel to Escape from the Planet of the Apes, telling us the true fate of Dr. Louis. The Vudu HDX stream is alright so this should be at least a mediocre BD of a very fun VERY silly movie.

this is not a great movie by any means but it delivers fine entertainment to fans of this genre. Anyone here ripping it does not really appreciate B-grade cinema. Personally I can't wait to add this to me collection

What's all this hate for "Bug"? I saw it as a kid in the theater and loved it! I knew even then at a young age it was pretty dumb, but there's so much silly fun to be had. And then there's Bradford Dillman who I love in everything he's in. I bought "The Hephaestus Plague" book soon thereafter and read it as a teenager, and although it is probably "superior" to the film to most, I'll take the film over that book any day. Go in expecting a 70's low-budget horror exploitation film released by a major studio (which I love the most) with some fun and crazy moments and you should be more than happy.

Prophecy originally had a VHS release with the front opening as you would open the front cover of a book in the early 80s. My Friday the 13th part 2 that I bought new was like that as well. Let's Scare Jessica... was a few years later and may have been the same time as bug or even with a Prophecy reissue in a regular slip case. I recall they were really expensive to buy at the time.

For about 2 seconds I got excited thinking this was the Billy Friedkin film.

It’s on Hulu currently if anyone wants to check it out first.

I’m just happy more Paramount titles are getting licensed, especially some of the more obscure ones.

Meh, I like other films William Castle produced but Bug was definitely not one of them This was bad even for him Nonetheless I have fond memories watching this on TNT years ago late night
