Uggghhhhh. As much as I want to support all of Kino’s UHD efforts, this is an easy pass for me.

YES! I dreamed about the remaster of this masterpiece for years and to be honest I would be grateful just for new Blu-ray, but UHD? Okay then!

Kino should have started with this as their first UHD instead of Hannibal, which was a bit underwhelming tbh. Hopefully this is loaded with some excellent extras!

Seems Universal are licensing out a lot of stuff lately. This is what happens when a distributor isn't hellbound for domination and monopoly.

I love this movie, so I'm happy. Glad Kino's announcement didn't turn out to be a title available somewhere else. I remember Universal taking their sweet time releasing this on Blu-ray. I believe this was completed on a 2K digital intermediate. So they went back and rescanned the original negative in 4K? Seems a departure for a Universal title if that's the case.

Very nice, i'll buy. Though I fear this won't shift as many units as something like Hannibal and might leave Kino feeling a little disheartened on the UHD front (though i'd love to be proven wrong). I kinda wish they'd gone with something shamelessly commercial and thus more likely to bring in some $$$.

Not necessarily. Universal especially have been quite amenable to licensing out bigger properties to boutique labels. Pitch Black being the example of the week

I just finished reading a long article in American Cinematographer about Eternal Sunshine’s embrace of the digital intermediate, and if they did go back to the original negative, there’s a whole lot more involved than just piecing things back together. Maybe we can get Kino Lorber Insider to speak some about the remaster and what all went into it.

Just glad they're continuing after Hannibal but for me this is a pass. I have it on blu-ray and I think never watched it. (having rented it on DVD and falling asleep through parts on that viewing)

And most titles after 2003 were 2K DI's. It's rare to have rebuilds. I never expect them. Even on dramas.

I dunno. Hannibal was enormously successful at the box office and made a mint on DVD back in the day, but I feel like it's kinda forgotten as a relic from another era. It hasn't exactly maintained some mighty stature in pop culture over the past couple of decades. The franchise has, but this particular entry has not.

Whereas Eternal Sunshine is a considerably less commercial choice, but it's beloved by its devoted fanbase in a way that Hannibal really can't match.

Kino Lorber Insider mentioned how well Hannibal did at Best Buy, and I could see Eternal Sunshine floundering at B&M retail by comparison, but I can also imagine it doing better business online with people like us.
