Default The Disappointments Room (2016)

It's coming out this Friday and it doesn't have its own thread yet, so here we go...

The Disappointments Room is a horror flick starring Kate Beckinsale, directed and co-written by D.J. Caruso (director of Disturbia) and co-written by Wentworth Miller (writer of Stoker). The plot revolves around a haunted house with a locked attic room which contains "unimaginable horrors," Pandora's Box-style.

One of many repeatedly-delayed Relativity movies disrupted by the studio's bankruptcy, The Disappointments Room was shot back in August of 2014 and originally scheduled for a September 2015 release. It was then pushed to March 2016, then November 2016, before finally taking over fellow Relativity chiller Before I Wake's September 9, 2016 spot when that film was delayed yet again.

The decision to release it in September was made only a month earlier, with no trailer or even a poster yet released. Since then some marketing material has been rushed out, but expectations are low. Relativity studio head Ryan Kavanaugh tweeted that the film would be a limited/VOD release, but that decision has apparently been reversed as it's now slated for moderate release in roughly 1,500 North American theatres. Coming out with Don't Breathe holding strong and Blair Witch slated for the following weekend certainly doesn't boost its chances.

Here's the trailer:

Currently the worst five openings for movies in 1,500+ theatres belong to:
1 Creature - $327,000
2 The Oogieloves in the Big Balloon Adventure - $443,901
3 Delgo - $511,920
4 Heavenly Bodies - $1,114,635
5 Batman: Mask of the Phantasm - $1,189,975

It'll be interesting to see if The Disappointments Room can join this "elite" club of failure.
