The 1st generally available 3D Blu-ray would play (in 2D)
on regular Blu-ray players (later 3D Blu-rays wouldn't), the added datastream containing the 3D information was ignored by regular Blu-ray players. My idea is to add an HDR datastream to regular Blu-rays, new Blu-ray players would decode it and add HDR to regular Blu-ray images (since most UHD Blu-rays are recorded with HDR, these masters could just be downconverted to create HDR regular Blu-rays). (if such an HDR datastream could be created, it might also be possible to add HDR to ATSC 1.0 over the air HDTV) Kirk Bayne |
