Default panny BD30 or BD10??

does anyone have any comments or opinions on these 2 panasonic model players? i am in the market for one and not sure what to do.

if i buy the BD30 i have to upgrade my receiver to get the audio decodes

if i buy the BD10 it will decode and i wont have to upgrade the receiver right now.

however i heard the PQ on the BD30 is incredible, how about the BD10 PQ, any thoughts or comments from owners of these players?

thanks for your help

Hard choice..I went from the BD10 to the BD30 recently for 1.1 profile and 24p output support. If you have a Sony XBR4/5 or a tv that accepts 24p(fps) input I'd go with the bd30. Picture is great, but unless I had them side by side with dual screens I could not tell if there was a difference in PQ...So I can't comment on that aspect.

The BD30 also loads movies faster than the BD10. Something I'm glad got improved.

You can bite the bullit now and enjoy all your movies. If your receiver does not support HDMI, you can pass the audio by using the Analog connections or Optical. If you buy this player you will be able to stream DTS MA (FOX) as soon as you upgrade your receiver. You will need to buy a receiver that can decode DTS MA and Dolby TrueHD because this player can only stream the audio to a capable receiver.

I just upgraded from a Sony BDP-S1 and I am really enjoying the improvements. It's a shame that Sony does not have a 1.1 player on the market.

The one thing I miss is there is not bitrate meter on the DB30 (unless I am missing something).

Can you still hook up the player to a receiver via digital coax or toshlink fiber optic to hear the audio? like for now until i upgrade the receiver?

ABSOLUTELY. use a Coax or Optical cable and get digital 5.1 sound. yeah its not HD sound, but for my ears 5.1 sounds amazing. I have not eaten the from the forbidden garden yet and im kinda scared to im going broke fast at this rate and if I hear HD audio I'll HAVE to upgrade my receiver

I have both. The only difference I see is that the BD30 has slightly better color. I had to boost the sharpness all the way up on the BD30 to get it to look as good as the BD10. Other than the color (and it's a very minor issue) the BD30 does not look any better than the BD10. Both are in my opinion slightly soft compared to other players on the market. The BD10 seems to be constructed a bit stronger.

If not for AVCHD and BDMV playing capabilities I would not own either Panasonic. I think they are somewhat overrated. I also have a Samsung 1200 and think its picture looks superior. The Samsung will not do AVCHD though. I have also seen some Sonys which I think look better than the Panasonics, but the Sonys will not play BDMV disks ... frustrating. So, I think the Panasonics are maybe the best overall compromise.

If the audio decodes are important to you and you have not upgraded or don't plan on upgrading your receiver, by all means go with the BD10. If the latest profile is important to you, go with the BD30 especially if you have or are planning on purchasing a new display.

If I had a choice between BD10 or BD30, I would buy whichever one I could get cheaper.
