Default "Hounds of Love" (Directed by Ben Young) - May 12, 2017

Hounds of Love (Australia 2017)

written and directed
by Ben Young

Quote:
In suburban Perth during the mid 1980s, people are unaware that women are disappearing at the hands of serial killers John and Evelyn White. After an innocent lapse in judgment, Vicki Maloney is randomly abducted by the disturbed couple. With her murder imminent, Vicki realizes she must find a way to drive a wedge between Evelyn and John if she is to survive. Hounds of Love is an exercise in expertly-crafted tension, offering a bold, challenging debut from writer/director Ben Young.

I'll be definitly checking this out. The trailer reminds me of Justin Kurzels "Snowtown".

Hmmm, might skip this one for those same reasons. Might be a bit too disturbing for me.

This was a really good film. Disturbing, but they avoid showing the worst of the physical violence, it ends up being more psychological terror and drama, a lot of it is about the abusive relationship between the husband and wife. All 3 central performances are incredible.

What a shame this has had such a weak opening weekend in the US. I would recommend seeing this, it'd be nice to see West Australian talent get a bit of exposure.

EDIT: It appears I misread the opening weekend numbers. I was under the impression it was out in the US already but the numbers on "The Numbers" are for the preview screenings in Australia, despite being listed under international, I guess "domestic" means "USA", not "The country it was made in"?

A friend just watched it. Said they show a dog getting beat to death. I know it's fake but I hate animal violence in movies. This sounded interesting but I'm going to have to pass based on that.

[Show spoiler]
They actually don't show anything. It happens, but you don't physically see it.

Is that the Australian release?

I see that it's getting an Arrow release in the UK. AND a media book in Germany. I love me some German media books.

Still haven't seen it though.

Yessir. You can get it on amazon or direct from Shock.

https://www.amazon.com/Hounds-Love-N...0453244&sr=8-1

or

If you're the cautious type, I ordered it and I'll confirm when it gets here because there could be a small possibility the customer service rep had no idea and you never really know. But I'm excited either way.
