Rise of the Guardians 3D releases in theaters November 21st 2012. Blu Ray 3D probably out by March 2012. The movie looks good and the 3D looks very strong, as it is in Madagascar 3 3D, another Dreamworks title. Is PDI (Pacific Data Images) behind all of the CGI computer animated Dreamworks titles? (Shrek, Puss n Boots, Madagascar, Rise of the Guardians, etc?) This one cost a 145$ million budget. Jack Frost (Chris Pine of Star Trek) is the lead character, and has to join with Santa (Alec Baldwin of Glen Gary Glenross) and the Easter Rabbit (Hugh Jackman of Wolverine) to defeat the Nightmare King (Jude Law). The trailer in 3D on the Madagascar 3 3D blu ray was great, with strong 3D and more in depth than the 3D trailer they showed in theaters so far. Anyone planning to see it this opening weekend? I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Hoping to see an Auro 3D 9.1 encoded BD release. Will be interesting to see that happening.

Probably going to try and go Sunday after work. I usually get out earlier on Sundays, and I have something going on for the following two days which are my days off. So it will be a little difficult then, and I don't want to miss it.
I agree the trailer that comes with Madagascar is the best one I've seen as well. I saw a commercial for it on TV today. They actually compared it with Avengers ha ha. Calling it the Avengers of something something. Can't remember exactly how they put it. |

Was that Chris Pine? Listening to the trailer, i would have sworn it was John Cusack. Weird! My Cusack man-love knows no bounds!
Anyway, YES, definitely seeing it. I've been eagerly anticipating it since the first trailer. Love the idea behind it. |

Since we had our Thanksgiving in Canada a while back and don't get Thursday off, I'll be checking this out on the weekend instead of tomorrow, even though it does open tomorrow up here as well. Hopefully in IMAX 3-D, but I'll have to see if it's playing in IMAX anywhere around me, since I feel many theatres will probably still prefer to stick with Skyfall on their IMAX screens, or split screenings up between the two.
It definitely looks like a fun movie, and I hope the 3-D is aggressive. Will it really be out on 3-D Blu by March, though? Since it's a Christmas movie, it may end up not seeing the light of day until next Christmas, in the same way Arthur Christmas didn't get released until a couple weeks ago even though it came out a year ago. |

Good point about a Christmas release. The nice angle here is, you can also release it for Easter, since it includes the Easter Rabbit as a main hero, and the title Rise of the Guardians is flexible. I'll predict March, April 2012 on blu ray 3D. |

Saw it in theaters; Rise of the Guardians' 3D turned out strong, and the story was enjoyable, Jack Frost being the star.
A good portion contained the theme of Santa Claus, but another portion the theme of the Easter Rabbit, and then some of the focus on other characters including the Sandman, Tooth Fairy and Jack Frost, so there is still a chance it can be marketed for blu ray 3D by March, April 2012 for Easter. |

![]() (Y'know, if Gil actually delivers any three of the nine movies he's "working" on, we're going to start seeing patterns by the time the first two are out. I'm calling that early.) Unfortunately, you can only dress Dreamworks up so far-- Like the scene where Jack Frost flies over, delivering ice and snow, and...a kid gets his tongue stuck, yuk yuk! ![]() Watching DW movies, you start thinking about that old bromide about how bullied schoolchildren grow up learning only how to bully or be bullied. And just exactly why we've gotten so much "Misunderstood loser alone in a sea of jerks" humor from Katzenberg's studio, I leave you to theorize... |

I know you're not a big fan of Dreamwork's storylines compared to Pixar (based on your past thoughts), but what did you think about the conflict Frost had later on, [Show spoiler] How did you like the 3D? |

![]() I hope they don't wait until next Christmas to release it on blu-ray. That would be a shame. It doesn't seem like that much of a Christmas movie anyway. It focuses more on the tooth fairy and Easter. And of course Jack Frosts story takes the over all lead. Don't think there was much to do with Christmas other than Santa being the leader of the Guardians. Last edited by Lovemy3D; 11-26-2012 at 05:39 AM. |

Yes there were elves, and some time spent at the north pole. That's where Santa's headquarters is after all. And he is their leader. But trying to think of when there was any actual Christmas involved. Don't remember any at the moment.

With those little elves in the TV spot, that commercial preview seems a bit misleading, suggesting it's like Despicable Me's yellow pill characters, when in reality, the Elves barely take up more than three minutes of screen time, to my relief actually, as their main role was just to be goofy. Dreamworks, keep up the lead in the 3D department. Very impressive 3D, again. I'd say it started with Kung Fu Panda 2's great 3D (almost strong 3D), and then hit the bulls eye with Madagascar 3 3D (strong 3D). The Croods is up next, and the 3D is looking great as well. ![]() |

But, again, as long as "Salieri" Katzenberg thinks he now has to compete with Illusion, and not Pixar/Disney, we're just going to get a flood of little marketably jabbering critters from most of the studios until the mania cools. Which should probably be a month or two after the Despicable sequel. Quote:
![]() And on that playing field, it never hurts to overdo. Avatar put the "depth" wimpiness into every other studio, but DW wants to pack the theaters for those weekend numbers, and they've got that look of "Audience pop-out" in their greedy green eyes. |

![]() Monsters Inc 3D is hopefully a turning point. It looked really good in 3D when I saw the trailer before Rise of the Guardians. It was on one of the smaller screens at Cinemark, which tend to have stronger 3D than the largest screens (possibly a less diluted image and more sharpness, color on the smaller screen). Quote:
