Dreamworks Rise of the Guardians (2012) Blu-ray 3D [Region Free]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rise_of_the_Guardians

Rise of the Guardians 3D releases in theaters November 21st 2012. Blu Ray 3D probably out by March 2012.

The movie looks good and the 3D looks very strong, as it is in Madagascar 3 3D, another Dreamworks title. Is PDI (Pacific Data Images) behind all of the CGI computer animated Dreamworks titles? (Shrek, Puss n Boots, Madagascar, Rise of the Guardians, etc?)

This one cost a 145$ million budget.

Jack Frost (Chris Pine of Star Trek) is the lead character, and has to join with Santa (Alec Baldwin of Glen Gary Glenross) and the Easter Rabbit (Hugh Jackman of Wolverine) to defeat the Nightmare King (Jude Law).

The trailer in 3D on the Madagascar 3 3D blu ray was great, with strong 3D and more in depth than the 3D trailer they showed in theaters so far.

Anyone planning to see it this opening weekend?

I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Hoping to see an Auro 3D 9.1 encoded BD release. Will be interesting to see that happening.

Probably going to try and go Sunday after work. I usually get out earlier on Sundays, and I have something going on for the following two days which are my days off. So it will be a little difficult then, and I don't want to miss it.

I agree the trailer that comes with Madagascar is the best one I've seen as well. I saw a commercial for it on TV today. They actually compared it with Avengers ha ha. Calling it the Avengers of something something. Can't remember exactly how they put it.

Was that Chris Pine? Listening to the trailer, i would have sworn it was John Cusack. Weird! My Cusack man-love knows no bounds!

Anyway, YES, definitely seeing it. I've been eagerly anticipating it since the first trailer. Love the idea behind it.

Definitely gonna check this out in 3d. the 3d looked great and the visuals look gorgeous!!! I'm a total sucker for fantasy movies anyway, so this movie should do the trick nicely

Since we had our Thanksgiving in Canada a while back and don't get Thursday off, I'll be checking this out on the weekend instead of tomorrow, even though it does open tomorrow up here as well. Hopefully in IMAX 3-D, but I'll have to see if it's playing in IMAX anywhere around me, since I feel many theatres will probably still prefer to stick with Skyfall on their IMAX screens, or split screenings up between the two.

It definitely looks like a fun movie, and I hope the 3-D is aggressive. Will it really be out on 3-D Blu by March, though? Since it's a Christmas movie, it may end up not seeing the light of day until next Christmas, in the same way Arthur Christmas didn't get released until a couple weeks ago even though it came out a year ago.

9.1 surround sound? Cool.

Good deal. My disc didn't have that deal on the cover sadly.

I see the connection, good comparison to get people excited. Santa, Easter Rabbit, Jack Frost, etc. united against evil.

I'm sure you've heard they're working on a 3D version of 2012 with Cusack as the lead. He's a very good actor, agreed. How was The Raven? I wanted to see that one but missed it in theaters. 1408 was cool also.

Yeah, this is looking great. I like how Jack Frost isn't a toddler, but an older hero, as it was in How to Train Your Dragon 3D. Arthur Christmas 3D had a trailer I never saw before on one of my new 3D discs (think it was Smurfs 3D), about Santa's space ship delivering stuff. I wish I saw that trailer in theaters, as I was almost going to see it but wasn't sure what it was about.

Yes, 3D is aggressive, but hopefully it keeps it up the whole movie as with Madagascar 3 3D.

Good point about a Christmas release. The nice angle here is, you can also release it for Easter, since it includes the Easter Rabbit as a main hero, and the title Rise of the Guardians is flexible. I'll predict March, April 2012 on blu ray 3D.

This looks really good from the preview on Madagascar 3. I don't 'do' cinemas anymore, but can't wait to get the bluray

Saw it in theaters; Rise of the Guardians' 3D turned out strong, and the story was enjoyable, Jack Frost being the star.

A good portion contained the theme of Santa Claus, but another portion the theme of the Easter Rabbit, and then some of the focus on other characters including the Sandman, Tooth Fairy and Jack Frost, so there is still a chance it can be marketed for blu ray 3D by March, April 2012 for Easter.

And you can tell it's Guillermo Del Toro's new Dreamworks consultation, because they brought the Easter Bunny in to play Hellboy.
(Y'know, if Gil actually delivers any three of the nine movies he's "working" on, we're going to start seeing patterns by the time the first two are out. I'm calling that early.)

Unfortunately, you can only dress Dreamworks up so far--
Like the scene where Jack Frost flies over, delivering ice and snow, and...a kid gets his tongue stuck, yuk yuk!
Watching DW movies, you start thinking about that old bromide about how bullied schoolchildren grow up learning only how to bully or be bullied. And just exactly why we've gotten so much "Misunderstood loser alone in a sea of jerks" humor from Katzenberg's studio, I leave you to theorize...

Del Toro mentioned Hellboy III might be next on his plate, but we'll see what happens. (Hellboy II was awesome).

I know you're not a big fan of Dreamwork's storylines compared to Pixar (based on your past thoughts), but what did you think about the conflict Frost had later on,
[Show spoiler]whether to side with the Nightmare guy or not, and then found his "center"? I'll agree, that up to that point, the story was fairly basic, and also admit the twist from Wreck it Ralph from Disney was more dramatic. All opinions even so.

How did you like the 3D?

I thought the 3D was simply stunning, it seems like with each new Dreamworks animated film, the animator's step up their game delivery amazing style and visual intensity ... wow!!

Totally agree. I think Rise Of The Guardians is easily the best animated 3D movie I've seen yet. And I'm pretty sure I've seen the majority of them. The movie is the complete package. Great adventure story. Unbelievable 3D. Loads of fast paced action. And an all around visual treat. DreamWorks is getting very good at this. They really knew what they were doing with the 3D as it's one wow moment after another. And you got to love a sword wielding Santa lol. And a double bladed style at that. I think those not wanting to go to the theater are missing out with this. It's fantastic on the big screen, especially with all the crazy flying. I just might go again.

I hope they don't wait until next Christmas to release it on blu-ray. That would be a shame. It doesn't seem like that much of a Christmas movie anyway. It focuses more on the tooth fairy and Easter. And of course Jack Frosts story takes the over all lead. Don't think there was much to do with Christmas other than Santa being the leader of the Guardians.

And all the North Pole Minio...er, Elves.
(Well, at least Jeff's stopped ripping off Pixar.)

Yes there were elves, and some time spent at the north pole. That's where Santa's headquarters is after all. And he is their leader. But trying to think of when there was any actual Christmas involved. Don't remember any at the moment.

Agreed, hopefully it's on blu ray 3D by April 2013. Great artwork and strong 3D where the layers pop out very easily from one another.

With those little elves in the TV spot, that commercial preview seems a bit misleading, suggesting it's like Despicable Me's yellow pill characters, when in reality, the Elves barely take up more than three minutes of screen time, to my relief actually, as their main role was just to be goofy.

Dreamworks, keep up the lead in the 3D department. Very impressive 3D, again. I'd say it started with Kung Fu Panda 2's great 3D (almost strong 3D), and then hit the bulls eye with Madagascar 3 3D (strong 3D).
The Croods is up next, and the 3D is looking great as well.

Pixar take note, you should be ashamed of yourself for watering down 3D in the name of great story, which offlate have not been that great anyway.

At our theater, seasonal Elves marketing was ALL OVER the lobby. You would think it was Hotel Transylvania or Despicable Me 2 from the way they were promoted as the money-draw of the film.
But, again, as long as "Salieri" Katzenberg thinks he now has to compete with Illusion, and not Pixar/Disney, we're just going to get a flood of little marketably jabbering critters from most of the studios until the mania cools. Which should probably be a month or two after the Despicable sequel.

One good thing you can say about Dreamworks attempt to Out-Studio the other studios at all costs, they believe firmly in "We're selling the 3D, we're going to USE the 3D! "
And on that playing field, it never hurts to overdo. Avatar put the "depth" wimpiness into every other studio, but DW wants to pack the theaters for those weekend numbers, and they've got that look of "Audience pop-out" in their greedy green eyes.

Yes, the need to amp up the 3D and forget about this idea of "3D storytelling", which is nearly equivalent to telling a story with "mono audio during dialog moments, then cranked up to 7.1 surround sound for the "key" events in the story". Point being, give us great 3D 100% of the time.

Monsters Inc 3D is hopefully a turning point. It looked really good in 3D when I saw the trailer before Rise of the Guardians. It was on one of the smaller screens at Cinemark, which tend to have stronger 3D than the largest screens (possibly a less diluted image and more sharpness, color on the smaller screen).

It's good they're going all out on the 3D, agreed. They give worthy examples of the term "3D", which can hopefully begin to change the minds of the doubters subjected to far too many weak 3D films (Clash of the Titans, Green Lantern's 3D, etc).
