The newly announced mobile game is Mario Kart Tour, coming out "within the next fiscal year" meaning between now and March 2019.

I've seen beta screenshot of this from nintendo soup. I think it looks good on vertical gameplay.

The only thing that pisses me off about it is that it forces you to play in verticle screen mode. There seems to be no widescreen option.

There is. Ideally, the game doesn't just turn into widescreen mode but you can force it with apps such as "Set Orientation" (if you use an Android phone/tablet).

Feels like this game has become rather monotonous and bland, the Daily Selects are pretty much standard stuff and the Multiplayer Mode is still unavailable.

I've got 7k coins and nearly 200 rubies, but nothing useful to buy it with.

On the bright side, it feels like a Mario Kart game as it should be although I've gotten bored with it (like I did with MK 8 Deluxe too).

Many predicted the online mode would be part of the paid subscription, it seems so..

Maybe, maybe not when it's finalized, but they know that's what many want. MKT is honestly pretty darn good and loads of content worth playing.
