Okay, there's so much FUD around the internet right now it's insane. That, in turn, has caused many people on this forum to start reading tea leaves and go into a panic state.
So, let me attempt to calm things down and redirect our course, bit. The single, most important thing right now is this. Blu-ray has NEVER been in a better position than we are right now! After the other side's attempt to buy the war with Paramount, it didn't come close to putting disc sales in their favor. After the other side's attempt to give away players, it didn't come close to putting disc sales in their favor. After the other side's previous attempts to buy Warner, they held fast in our court. After all the claims from the other side that additional manufacturers would have players out in the fourth quarter, only a couple of rebadged Toshiba's were released (one of which seems to already be out of production.) After all the claims from the other side that 30GB was enough, the biggest exclusive they had this year had to forego lossless audio in order to fit on the disc, and the latest Harry Potter release had to forego HD extras found on the BD version for the same reason. After all the other side has proclaimed in the past about how the fourth quarter was going to be the time they retook the lead, Blu-ray sales continued to dominate. And, perhaps most importantly, after all the previous statements of support for HD DVD by Microsoft insiders, they have all suddenly taken the position that high-def optical discs will be dead within 18 months... and are now preaching the HD download gospel going forward. Sure, it's fun to speculate about what every little move may mean, but many people here are starting to panic as if HD DVD were the format that had won EVERY SINGLE WEEK this year in disc sales... when we all know the opposite is true. Regardless of what happens, we've done out part as consumers and advocates. Our insiders, and the studios and manufacturer's they represent, have been negotiating to end this thing once and for all, and by all (non-FUD) accounts, the deal(s) to end this should be coming. All the FUD being spouted by the other side is just that. At this point, it's really not worth getting worked up over. They're trying to get a few more last minute sales and new owners before their game is up. The only chance they have at this point are some MASSIVE payoffs to counteract ALL logic on Warner's (and retailers) parts as to how this format war can be brought to a rapid close. And it looks as though Toshiba Japan is no longer willing to allow the US division to mortgage the company into bankruptcy to do it, and Microsoft seems to only be willing to play ball in exchange for concessions no studio would be willing to give. The end appears to be near, and we all need to stop panicing, and just wait for the (likely) good news to come. There's really nothing left for us to do, except to go out here and to the "neutral" forums and conduct ourselves as proper format cheerleaders welcoming the old HD DVD guard to come over to the winning side. Either refute the FUD or ignore it... but stop giving it the credence that it's spreaders are trying to get for themselves! Anyway, just my $.02, and my attempt to cheer everyone up and calm everyone down. Last edited by JadedRaverLA; 12-31-2007 at 07:47 PM. |

I'm pretty new to these forums, but it doesn't look like many are nervous here.

B.... L... U.... R... A... Y... ! Now we just ned to hold auditions for some appropriate looking girls to do the real cheerleading. BTW, I've never been accused of being a couch before. Though if some of the new female cheerleaders want to sit on me, I won't object. |

By the time The Dark Knight is ready for disc release, it will have Blu-ray and DVD SKU's only.
Time Warner, Warner Bros., New LIne and HBO will all be Blu-ray exclusive before the Summer says good-bye to us. I would not be surprised if some of the major retailers do the same. |

I'm a Blu-Ray cheerleader anytime I hear anything about HD media. I don't hide my support, and I think my confidence has convinced many of my friends to go Blu as well. I've had friends talk about how they're not sure of what format to invest in so they'll wait until there's a clear winner. I'm of the opinion: "why wait" I give them every stat under the sun to show why Blu is already the clear winner, and ask why would you invest in that large HDTV and not get all that you can out of it.
