DEVIL Review Thread USE SPOILER TAGS

Apparently it's his next project. I'm not a big M Night fan, but if he makes a good movie again, I'll jump right back on the band wagon.

M Night Shyamalan is known for shooting his films close to home, in and around the Philadelphia area. Right now the director is even doing post production on his latest, The Last Airbender, in Philly. This morning I received an e-mail from a /Film reader named Bruce W who alerts me that Shyamalan is being forced to relocate his next film, Devil, to Toronto. My first reaction was… Wait, what the hell is Shyamalan’s Devil? (pun intended)

Somehow I totally must have missed this project when it was first reported last October. Devil is a supernatural thriller, based on an original idea from Night, co-written by Brian Nelson (30 Days of Night) and directed by The Dowdle Brothers, John Eick and Drew Dowdle, who were executive producers and writers on Quarantine and The Poughkeepsie Tapes. What is it about? We don’t know… details are being kept tightly under wraps. The only thing we know is that it is aiming for a PG-13, and is the first feature film of three planned in The Night Chronicles production brand.

Apparently the plan was for Shyamalan to very closely oversee all three films’ development and production, but things are getting a bit more complicated now. Jane Saul, director of the Pennsylvania Film Office tells Philly.com: “Last week, at the 11th hour, Devil withdrew its application for credits because of uncertainty with respect to whether film tax credits would be in the state budget,. This is an obvious sign that without the film tax credit in place, we lose film business, and in turn, jobs.” Looks like Night will be racking some frequent flier miles flying back and forth from Toronto.

I like some of the Director's films (Sixth Sense, Unbeakable, and Signs) the rest were okay with the village at the bottom of list. His next title is The Last Airbender I will be checking it out, if its great definitely will be checking this one. Writing this one, makes me wonder.

weird that he's not directing it. this will be a first for a movie that he's also written.

Sounds interesting, but there's so little info on it. I'll wait and see. I hope he makes a sequel to Unbreakable soon. I love the first one so much, and he has been talking about doing a sequel for some time now.

Seriously though, be it Shyamalan or the Dowdley bros. or whoever I will wait for Rotten Tomatoes verdict before shelling out any dough to go see this.

Universal Pictures have released the first teaser trailer for Devil, which is being dubbed as coming “From The Mind of M Night Shyamalan.” The first released under “The Night Chronicles” banner, Devil is directed by Quarantine helmers the Dowdle Bros from a story by M. Night Shyamalan and script by Brian Nelson. The story reported involves a group of people who are trapped in an elevator, and one of them is the devil. We’ve also been told that the security guard is trying to convince the policeman to get them out of the elevator, and that he is the chosen one to save the people. The trailer uses the wording “One of these five people, is not, who they appear to be.” The film stars Chris Messina, Bojana Novakovic, Bokeem Woodbine, Geoffrey Arend and Caroline Dhavernas
