Germany Peckinpah's West (1962-1973) Plaion Pictures

Quote:
He was called "Bloody Sam" and he was probably the last desperado of Hollywood. He revived the then sifty Hollywood western with a savage that was not known until then. His characters were not heroes. They were survivors, vagabonds and killers with dreams of freedom, which crumbled into dust in the brutal reality of the West. Like Randolph Scott and Joel McCrea in SACRAMENTO. Two men of the old West who seem to have fallen out of time and accept a last big order. William Holden and his THE WILD BUNCH, a group of outlaws who are planning their big coup. Jason Robards, who in ABGERECHNET WILL while CONCLUSION is nothing more important than his freedom. And James Coburn and Kris Kristofferson, who as PAT GARRETT & BILLY THE KID show that the myths of the West are only legends in the end. (7 Blu-rays)

I hope Pat Garrett gets a separate release.

The translation of the publicity blurb should read "Like Randolph Scott and Joel McCrea in RIDE THE HIGH COUNTRY" instead of Sacramento and "Jason Robards, who in THE BALLAD OF CABLE HOGUE is nothing more..." instead of Abgerechnet wird zum Schluss, beautifully translated to "ABGERECHNET WILL while CONCLUSION".

Speaking of this Plaion box set, I already own most of these titles from Warner or Criterion, and plan on getting the US releases for the remaining ones, which is why I actually don't want to get this. But having Mike Siegel-produced supplements and making of documentaries included makes this box set almost a must-have. I wonder if a similar box set by Imprint in Australia is in the works. If so, I'd probably get this one to go with my other Imprint/Mike Siegel Peckinpah box sets.

With the name of the box and the high price I thought there would be some more titles included besides only Pat Garret as a BD, a repack of The Wild Bunch, and two titles I already got from WA that probably wouldn’t sell well on its own in Germany. This seems to cater more to the German audience who like German dubs.

I would have loved to have seen "The Deadly Companions" (1961) as part of a Peckinpah Western box set, even though it is supposed to be a poor film. It is in the public domain, and there is no proper home video release out there. I really hope someone will put out a proper blu-ray one day.

I'm quite interested in this box-set.

However, the pics on Plaion's website don't reveal much about the packaging.

Will these be Amarays/Scanavos or digipacks?

It's up to the labels to announce contents in detail, not up
to me... But I made new docs on CABLE HOGUE, WILD BUNCH,
PECKINPAH's EARLY YEARS (incl. RIDE) and my doc on PAT GARRETT
will be also included of course...). That's 4hrs. The other 3 1/2 hrs
is various stuff...
It would be greatly appreciated if the movies came with English subtitles.

Well I guess I'm going to purchase this then. I'm always keen to support smaller labels as long I don't overpay for something that will end up on bigger outlets.

Also just for my info as well, as the write-up isn't clear, these movies are included:

1) Ride The High Counrtry (D: Sacramento) (ca. 94 Minuten)
2) The Wild Bunch (ca. 145 Minuten)
3) The Ballad Of Cable Hogue (D: Abgerechnet wird zum Schluss) (ca. 121 Minuten)
4) Pat Garrett & Billy The Kid (D: Pat Garrett jagt Billy the Kid) (ca. 106 Minuten)

Plaion isn't exactly a "small label" though. The company has nearly 2000 employees.

I emailed Indicator a couple of weeks back about potentially securing the rights to Osterman (namely the director's cut) and Companions. I got a definite no on Osterman due to it being owned by Disney but a "we will do some research" on Companions. Doesn't mean much but hopefully something might come of it. Would be great to finally have a quality release of Peckinpah's debut.

Is Osterman owned by Disney? I know that Fox had theatrical rights but Anchor Bay’s old DVD and Blu never mentioned being licensed by Fox or Buena Vista/Disney.

I thought it was an independent production that was only distributed by Fox but I was told that it was a Fox title and thus owned by Disney (who apparently no longer licence films). Since Indicator is a UK label though, maybe the email was specifically referring to the UK rightsholder?

I also would like to find out if THE WILD BUNCH is a new transfer or the same old lackluster one from Warners that's been out forever.

It's very good news that the extras are in English.

However, on the Plaion website it says that it only comes with German subtitles.

I hope it's just a mistake because I am very interested in this box.

Well I already have a German Wild Bunch poster and the German blu-ray of Junior Bonner for the Arizona Morning opening so I might as well get this. Then Criterion can start releasing all the UHD's of these titles.
