I'm looking forward to owning this on BD. I'm hoping Julianne Moore wins the Academy Award for best actress. Thanks jscoggins for the info on the Amazon preorder.

Yeah, the general consensus is that she was great in the role and is long overdue for an Oscar.

CULVER CITY, Calif. (Mar. 23, 2015) – In her Academy Award® winning role, Julianne Moore stars in Sony Pictures Classics’ gripping and emotional STILL ALICE,available on Digital HD April 28 and debuting on Blu-ray™ and DVD May 12 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. When linguistics professor Dr. Alice Howland (Moore) is diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease, she struggles to stay connected to the world around her and who she once was. STILL ALICE depicts the progression of the disease, its familial impact, and the aching resilience brought forth. Moore’s performance was the most awarded of the season, earning her the Best Actress Oscar®, as well as Best Actress awards from the Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild, BAFTA, and the Broadcast Film Critics Association, among others.

From independent filmmaking team Richard Glatzer & Wash Westmoreland (Quinceañera), STILL ALICE also stars Academy Award nominee Alec Baldwin (Best Supporting Actor, The Cooler, 2003) as Alice’s husband, along with Kristen Stewart (Twilight franchise), Kate Bosworth (Homefront) and Hunter Parrish (“The Good Wife”) as their children.

STILL ALICE bonus features include deleted scenes and three in-depth featurettes. The first, “Directing Alice,” is a look at Richard Glatzer & Wash Westmoreland’s unique journey to create STILL ALICE. This piece includes inspiring footage of the adapted directorial techniques used by Glatzer and Westmoreland, as Glatzer’s battle with ALS progressed while filming. The second featurette, “Finding Alice,” explores the research and time dedicated by the filmmakers and cast to create an accurate portrayal of the disease. This featurette also introduces Sandy Oltz, a woman living with early-onset Alzheimer’s, who served as a consultant and advisor to Julianne Moore. In the third featurette, composer Ilan Eshkeri discusses how Alzheimer’s has affected his life, why he was drawn to this project and the role music plays in the film.

Synopsis:
Alice Howland, happily married with three grown children, is a renowned linguistics professor who starts to forget words. When she receives a diagnosis of early-onset Alzheimer's disease, Alice and her family find their bonds thoroughly tested. Her struggle to stay connected to who she once was is frightening, heartbreaking, and inspiring.

Based on the novel of the same name by Lisa Genova, STILL ALICE was directed and written by Richard Glatzer & Wash Westmoreland. The film was executive produced by Maria Shriver, Marie Savare, Christine Vachon, Emilie Georges, Nicholas Shumaker, Celine Rattray, Trudie Styler. Lex Lutzus, James Brown, Pamela Koffler served as producers, and Elizabeth Gelfand Stearns served as co-producer.

Think of picking this up, but wondering if I'll ever watch it again. It's kind of like Amour- gathering dust on my shelf since I bought it. Just really sad

Really tough movie to watch, but a great performance by Moore. Also thought KStew was good in her supporting role as one of the daughters. You'd have to be a glutton for punishment to want to watch twice though.

Having dealt with a family member with this particular affliction, this is going to be a very painful film to watch. It's basically why I've avoided it up until now.

But, eventually ...

I feel the same way. Lost my dear Dad to early onset Alzheimer's. Truly a horrible, tragic illness.

I'd recommend a rental. I watched it tonight and I really love a good tearjerker. But while it's a great film there is no way I would ever put myself through it again. It was just far too harrowing and I actually almost turned it off halfway through. I felt however that I 'had' to finish it out of respect to the filmmakers and anyone who has ever suffered from the disease. But it was a VERY tough slog!

It's the reason why I don't know if I'll purchase this. I do want to watch it one more time but to own this? No way. It's just a difficult film to watch.

Once was more than enough. This movie is just an unremitting bummer and not in a good way.

(and the forgetting-her-Pinkberry-order plot device has to be some sort of nadir for tasteful product placement)

I especially think that a person who has lost someone they love to this disease they should watch this film it shows a great portrait of a family binding together after she gets diagnosed with the Alzheimer's and I think while it may be hard to watch, it's a definite must see if someone you love has been diagnosed with Alzheimers and anybody really. a truly amazing film. day one for me and I'm glad there's a slipcover too!

With Plain Archive releasing this at some point, I see zero reason to buy the US disc.

Got my copy on Day 1! Such a fantastic film and glad it came with a slipcover

Not sure why again, there is no Spanish track nor subtitles. I like to show mom some of these and they just come across the same in English due to some language barriers.
