I've had my HDR TV for a few months and watched many 4K discs and they lack the wow factor of the 4K HDR demo clips on YouTube especially the LG OLED Chess demo. I've watched the YouTube clips a lot as they seem to be the only thing that really showcases what my TV is capable of,
There's still been a few instances on the discs that have had that wow factor such as scenes with a lot of fire or direct light such as El Diablo in Suicide Squad but not the whole thing like the YouTube clips. There's still a worthy difference in the wider colour compared to the Blu-Ray which look very washed out and murky once you've been watching the HDR discs. |

Maybe not but would be interested to know the reasons. Hope people realise I'm talking about the HDR and that I don't think the LG OLED Chess Demo is better than Ghostbusters

Movies are more realistic, the demos are basically fake Documentaries with no true artistic intent.
If u want to be blown away, preorder Billy Lynns long halftime walk. It blows away all current 4k discs because it was shot demo style. |

The reasons are pretty simple. The demos are designed to shift TVs from stores. Movies look however the filmmakers want them to look depending on their own tastes or what the story needs.
You're bound to get more immediate eye candy from demos but not a whole lot of subtlety. |

I have 23 4K blu rays, and very few of them have blown me away with their picture quality (Lucy, Pacific Rim, Revenant are the real standouts). In most cases, the difference between the 4k picture and an upscaled blu ray picture are pretty subtle.

OP - check out the X-men Apocalypse 4K blu ray if you haven't already. Plenty of scenes with that "wow" factor.

It does look amazing with the HDR and I love the beginning of that movie and the part where he's falling and she's shifting his armor over from his old body to the new one using telekinesis and the sound effects and music are epic.

Most 4K HDR demo content is shot on 4K video, not film. Much are 'still' photos taken in time lapse hence the fast motion in some clips. With video, you get what you shoot. You cannot play with the image in terms of tint, grain etc. For THAT, you go to film.
