Default best time to buy blu rays? packaging issue

hello, I have been transferring from dvd to blu ray and I'm getting put off buying as i recently ordered the walking dead 1-5 on blu ray and it came in some cardboard pouch very poor quality. i was going to buy game of thrones
1-6. but i'm not sure if this cardboard pouches are the new standard it just looks really cheap.

what is the best thing to do to avoid the cardboard?

I have the 6 seasons of Game of Thrones (US versions) and they don't use pouches like you have pictured. They use plastic trays with regular hubs glued to the digipack cardboard.

If you really don't like the style packaging you have pictured then buy regular cases separate, print out your own artwork, and transfer the discs over.

I would suggest that you buy each season individually. Buying a complete series or multiple seasons usually involves cheaper packaging. If you buy the seasons individually the packaging should be better. Before buying something you could also look for unboxing videos on youtube or pictures of the set on the internet to get a better look at what you're getting.

i have tried doing that with printing the cover art, but not sure what type of paper i should use for the shiny look.

If you mean a kind of glossy looking print without actual photo paper, you'll probably need to print them on a laser printer with 24 or 28 pound paper. Laser printers bake powered ink into the paper, and when you use a thicker paper like 24lb it doesn't show through to the other side like regular typing paper does.

Laser printers also have the advantage of not bleeding or running like inkjet does, but on the flip side they're much more expensive. You might luck out by printing at a university or kinkos instead of buying your own printer.
